What shocked me the most about Gibbs was his ability to absorb or even create contact and just keep on trucking. He's not a scatback. Well, he is, but he's also so much more.

I don't think either will regress, but if I had to pick one who'll excel I'd go with Gibbs since RB is an easier position to play vs TE.

I think they're both going to have even better seasons than last year. They were both rookies and EXCELLED beyond expectations! Has a 2nd year "rookie" ever had an AWESOME 1st season and then had a crap 2nd season without getting hurt???

Gibbs is most likely to replicate or improve his numbers simply because he will get more touches from the get go. Last year they SLOWLY worked Gibbs into the games early on until the game slowed down for him and THEN he took off!

I’m in full agreement. The Lions get a more confident and established Gibbs this year and that should lead to bigger numbers and performances this year

I like this format and idea. You asked for others - here's a few: Who makes a bigger impact, the new DL coach or new DB coach? Who has a better year, the Vikings or Bears? Who takes a bigger leap in their second year, Broderick Martin or Sorsdall? OR you could go Campbell or Branch Which extended player most lives up to their new contract, Goff, St. Brown, or Sewell? Which newcomer makes the biggest impact, Reader or Zeitler? There's just a few. Thanks guys - I wish this was on audio though, I have more time for podcasts and love the work you do!

Season long in the NFL --- injuries are EVERYTHING. Sam Laporte had the much more serious knee injury last year leaving question marks about his health for the LENGTH of the season as well as any career with the Lions. Of note the Lions matched the Niners in bids to keep Brock Wright due to the lack of depth at TE including the long term health of Laporte. Otherwise the health of the O-Line dictates how this team goes. That said with a strong line Jamyr Gibbs has the potential to put this offense and this team on his back and take them into the playoffs and beyond in ways Laporte cannot. Star RB in the NFL can carry teams much like McCaffrey in SF. If heaven help us Goff goes down the Lions can still have playoff ambitions with great OLine play and Gibbs... Enough Said!!!!

I would like to see a debate about which Brad Holmes draft pick that is playing a significant role on the team will not get a new contract with the Lions. Derrick Barnes? Alim McNeil? At some point the salary cap has to catch up with the Lions, right?

Laporta is amazing but I can't see him doing much better statistically than last year. Gibbs should see a big uptick in touches, especially thru the air. They will both be improved, but Gibbs likely takes the bigger statistical jump.

13:09 On the road in Tampa last year when both Jamyr and Monty were out of the game, the backup Lions RBs managed a pathetic 1.8 ypc (40 yards on 22 attempts) and the OL gave up three sacks in pass protection.

Love you guys. Feedback on the new format: - the #1 ingredient of a debate is disagreement. Didn't get much of that in this video. - usually there's an opinionated "bad guy" with memorable takes. Basically, I think you guys need to come up with devil's advocate takes, and challenge the other person to defend their side more. Lastly, I think you need to find a topic that is more debatable. This was too easy to agree with in both sides. I look forward to seeing this evolve.

Just imagine that these guys are able to stay relatively injury free. And they are still Lions when they reach their physically prime years.Could be scary for the rest of the NFL..

Splitting the load is essential to being explosive later in the season. The running back rotation keeps guys from getting injured like CMC and King Henry.

Before hearing the debate I'm going with Gibbs as the more successful. One of the most over looked but significant training camp injuries last year was Shane zylstra. Zylstra doesn't have the big blocking tight end body but has a forwards skill set where he has body control and quickness to make himself a premium red zone target. Remember most fans, including myself, weren't happy with the Laporta pick at 34. We thought wright, Mitchell and zylstra were good enough. I think Laporta will still be great but will be a focus of defenses. This will be to the benefit of jamo and peoples Jones but definitely the other tight ends. Didn't those 3 guys set some record or lead the NFL in 2022 with tight end TDs?

I can also see Gibbs being more involved in the passing game this year. I remember Gibbs having one or two big drops but 5 or 6 huge run after catch for 1st down. Im imagining pass catching was a big part of Gibbs off season work. Speaking of catching, I'm picturing sione vaki to be similar to Theo Riddick. Theo had some crazy returns on both punts and kick offs but vaki will be better on punt and kick off coverage. But on offense they want him as a third down back doing the hard blocking but often going out and catching key passes and converting 1st downs

I see Gibbs taking a bigger jump. He started slow last year, so now he has a full season to shine. Plus, Ben has an entire offseason to scheme for him now that he knows what he can do. LaPorta already had an elite season for his position and isn't as likely to make a big of a jump in year 2.

It's extremely irritating when you hear it in conversation and it's even worse when trying to consume content like this.
