Who ruled 2023? Devin Haney, David Benavidez, Teofimo, Inoue, Terence Crawford, Tank or Tim Tszyu?

It has been a fantastic year with great performances from Devin Haney, Teofimo Lopez, Tim Tszyu, Inoue, and others . There has been a lot of history made in the 2023 boxing World. With still a few more events coming up to close off the year, like Bam Rodriguez vs Sunny Edwards as well as Inoue going for two times undisputed & Shadasia Green Vs Franchon Cruz-Dezurn, There is a lot to consider. Here are my thoughts.

When it comes to 'Impact' my opinion is Jermell Charlo for the following reasons. Prior to the Canelo fight, Mel was undisputed ring magazine, wbo,wbc,wba,ibf at 154. Unfortunately his 18month inactivity effectively stalled the the whole 154 division. Sure tszyu, mendoza, lubin, ramos, fondora all fought but not for high stakes championship fights. The ripple effect of Mel taking the bag against Canelo had the following 'impact' - the WBO was free'd up, the IBF was free'd up, Mel's credability is in question (bud now not interested), is he going to fight again at 154? We could get excited about Crawford, Spence, and Ortiz coming to 154. In summary, Mel's decisions have now allowed for a hot and exciting 154 division in 2024. It'll be like a complete restart and refresh of the 154 division. Who will rise to the top and cement their legacy? All fights now mean so much more, who will the surprise packet be? Can the young Zayas make an impact? Will the russian Murtazaliev surprise boxing fans. All now possible because of 1 man. Mell Charlo

@ Tuff Glove boxing Haney should have ran it back with Loma. There was too much left on the table that wasn't finished. That was his toughest challenge. It left a major amount of people divided on who won. The rematch would have cleared the air and clearly defined a winner. It was a great fight.

I understand where you are coming from. I personally feel like he took a big risk staying at 135 to fight Loma. It was clear he was to big for the division. With that said I feel Loma should go back down to 140 and rule that division.

@@tuffgloveboxing Its probably to hard to go past Crawford. Regardless of who you support I dont think anyone even the fighters expected such a dominate performance. Maybe 1 fighter was calling out crawford prior to the spence fight now Tszyu, Boots, Teo, Haney, Charlo are calling him out. Such a shame boxing politics took so long, there's a strong message to all other fighters, managers, sanctioning bodies, promoters that the only reason it ended up happening is because bud was a free agent and disconnected himself from all the promoter politics and bullshit. If fighters want to fight? let em fight! The big Dubai card coming up has potential for someone to do something special.

For me it a coin toss between haney , bud and inoue . Then behind them benevidez , tszyu .... tank and canelo are just money grabbers that have made no impact on the sport this year and shouldn't even be in the conversation

It has to be Devin. He defended undisputed against Loma, just to prove a point. Then, he dropped his titles, moved up in weight, and dominated a boogeyman. I feel that Navarrete got robbed against Conceicao. That would have given him the year, after he had already moved up from 126 to stop Liam Wilson and beat Valdez, all this year. In another sense, though, Bud shook up the boxing world by dismantling Errol. He entered the conversation as the most impactful non-heavyweight. He is now a cash cow. And to "nontraditional" fans (I am trying to stop using disparaging terms like "casuals" for people) Ngannou made hardcore purists respect crossover boxing. Even though he lost, that was huge.
