Gil speaking facts! Pistol Pete was doing moves no one else could duplicate, and then he was doing moves that get credited to another player… Magic type passes, Rondo fakes, bombing from deep like Curry, Dream style shakes, fake behind-the-back passes, look-away half spins (The Smitty), something similar to the Shamgod, passing it off the backboard to himself, stopping and popping on a dime, stutter steps and dribbles, crossovers like the one Iso Joe did to Paul Pierce, between-the-legs passes and dribbles, underhanded passes like the one people lost their minds over from Lamelo, spin passes like White Chocolate, crossovers leading to floaters, crazy jumpers ala Kobe Bryant, passes through the opponent’s legs, etc etc… on the regular, in the 1970’s (even before in College)!! And this man played without a 3pt-line, came up in an era where hardcore fans, coaches and even some players frowned upon a flashy game, in a time when refs actually emphasized the dribbling rules (much stricter), a league dominated by bigmen too! Maravich was also at least 6’5’’ w/o shoes on, while being a good athlete, with PG-like skills, SG scoring prowess, and just an absurdly skilled offensive game!

Scoring shouldn't even be discussed. Kyrie is not a better scorer than Pistol.. You do know pistol Averaged 44ppg for 3 years in college before there was a 3 point line! They said if there was a 3 point line based on where he shot.. He would've averaged 57 points per game. Pistol averaged more ppg than Kyrie as an NBA player. He played over 600 games and only about 50 games with a 3 point line. And had a 67% 3pt percentage. Kyries game might be pretty and fancy. But Pistol is taking this man. Pistol had Handles too. Nobody could rip Pistol. This man invented half the ball handling drills. Don't believe me go watch Homework Basketball Ball Handling. I don't see what Kyrie can do that he couldn't. But I see what he can do that Kyrie can't. It's close tho Kyrie might edge him in Handles. Closer than I'm making it seem. But Pistol is that dude. Don't matter what era

Maravich obviously had a high level of skill but we can't bring him up without also discussing the filter that was put on black PGs for decades to "play the right way". There's a lot of black PGs that never got the opportunity to showcase the range of their skills, no such filter was ever put on Maravich's game. He did not ask for the advantage but it existed and we shouldn't just ignore it.

That's why I tell alot of younger guy's you can't make certain judgments of players when you've really not seen the entire spectrum of players. Pete was a basketball wizard with balling handling, passing and shooting. Remember he's the all time leading college scorer with a 43 point career scoring average with no three pointer.

Most of the moves Kyrie does now was illegal plays when Pistol Pete played.. Pistol Pete was Jason Williams trickery mixed with Kyrie handles mixed with Ray Allen shooting. Gil has a point. His name can be discussed. There is no answer. Kyrie is definitely top 3 in skill all time. You can't quantify who is most skilled anyway. Cause someone could say Kareem is most skilled. His footwork, positioning, accuracy and efficiency while using the most difficult shot to learn plus his positioning on defense was just as perfect. So that's 3 names and there are more.

Kyrie can’t score like Pete could… Pistol actually led the league in scoring once (year he was 3rd in MVP voting) with almost 5 more points per game than the next best, and he was also top3 in PPG two other times.
