Just hit a high mountain lake in Northeast Oregon today. Had a foot of snow sitting on a slush layer and 8 inches or more of solid ice. Caught some brookies and a limit of rainbows.

I was on the same lake yesterday and the ice grew from 2-3 inches to 4-4.5 but the snow made some slop on top and added some weight so be careful checking out there

I checked the ice on the puddle in the driveway this morning, there was a solid ¼ mm. That's just a little thin for me, so I'll wait till it's at least ½mm. Although to be honest, I don't know why I bother, cuz I've never even caught so much as a nibble in it. But down here in the Carolinas we don't get a lot of ice fishing opportunities, so you gotta take it where you can find it.😜

I was up at my Cabin in Northwestern Wisconsin in Burnett county on Monday 12-16-24. Water was all over the top of the ice. Not sure how thick. I took one look and walked away. I gave up ice fishing for the white sand beaches of the Florida Panhandle. Snow Birding is my new winter activity.

Was out on 12/26 here in NE Michigan and ice was 2-3.5 on the small (15 acre) lake I go to. The thicker ice was over the section of the lake that is max 10' deep. So not much ice here, and now it's gone with the rain, so I'll guess it'll be mid January now.
