Don't look, that's why you (supposedly, according to your comment, which is most likely sarcastic) can't type fast. Touch typing is essencial for fast typing, and something I sometimes still struggle with when it comes to typing any string of letters that contain (in any order) the 2 or more "rtyu" characters in sequence, but by simply touch typing I was able to get from 50 wpm to a consistent 88~92 wpm, with an eventual lucky run that gets me a feel of what it feels like to type in the low 110s wpm. If you intend to try monkeytype (the website they used) it's easier to get a higher score in the 15s mode, as that allows you to "pre-read" more words and therefore you have to think even less when you're typing.

I disagree. I think Magic Keyboard is great, even at sentences, for specific types of people (me being one of them). I honestly think WPM is more about your actual typing skills than what keyboard you use. Vinh, Brandon, and David for example i don't think would have done any better than they did if they used a mechanical keyboard. They're just slow typers.
@eruannster2 жыл бұрын
I don't agree with that at all. The Magic Keyboards are really good for typing fast (short travel, light actuation). Mechnical keyboards are way more difficult for speed. Also those guys that were looking down at their keyboards when typing were screwed no matter what keyboard they were using.
@firestar44308 ай бұрын
Skill is most of it. I'm a rather good typist, and the keyboard is really only +/- 5%. The apple keyboards tend to be good for short bursts, but my accuracy falls away quickly. My fastest typing speeds tend to be on mechanical linears. It also changes depending on how familiar you are with a board.

Are mechanical keyboards really that much better? Because, although I've never used a Magic Keyboard, it seems by far the most similar to what I normally use (literally just my laptop, with the built-in flat-keyed membrane keyboard) and my 15 second PB is 178 WPM. But any time I even attempt to use a mechanical keyboard I type SO much worse, like 75 WPM, which is still quite a bit above average, but it's a snail's pace compared to what I do with flat, membrane keyboards.
@jupiterapollo49852 жыл бұрын
Thogh the magic keyboard is chicklet design, it's actually a really good keyboard. It has pretty good feedback and very low profile keys, which actually might give you an improviement in speed compared to the majority of mechanical keyboards. Mechanical keyboards don't magically make the user a faster typist, the only benefit they really give is the superior tactile feeling and feedback. The mechanical keyboard trend has really warped people's minds of reason they got popular to begin with.
@Just_RJ2 жыл бұрын
I couldn't imagine using that Apple keyboard and getting anything above 30wpm but it goes to show that you can still achieve over 100wpm even so. For the record, I've been using a Logitech K400 for the better part of 4 years on my personal device now, but I think eventually my next move is a TKL mechanical keyboard with some tactile switches. Edit: I got a used Keychron K8 and have been using that for about 2 months now. It's a decent entry path into mechs imo but because it's not the version with hot-swappable keycaps, I've found it lacking in terms of upgradability. I might find an alternative chassis once I get some more stacks, but for now it's a large improvement to what I had before.

I do consistently get in the 100 to 110 wpm range on my magic keyboard. Any one will type horrifically slow/inefficiently on a different keyboard they aren't used to. I've always felt this is really about the typist and not the keyboard. At my office, i can switch back and forth between Magic Keyboard and various Mechanical Keyboards and keep the same typing level. But everyone who wraps their personality around which keyboard they use would disagree and i think that puts it in their head that they will inherently be worse on some keyboards. It's self fulfilling prophecy/confirmation bias IMO.
@KingNedya2 жыл бұрын
