This is shaping up to be a great series, thank you for publishing your mod collection! For your next series, would you consider doing an "episode zero" to showcase your modlist, world settings, and any in-game setup before Ep. 1 starts? I know it might not get as many views, but it would really help people like me who like to play along with LPs like this.

There is a mod called "Autofill Bottles" You will love it. What it does is when you refill your energy, heath etc from a medical bay or survival kit it automatically refills ypur bottles in your inventory. Apart from mod suggestion, a side note if you interact with a survival kit or medical bay, it refills your energy faster than sitting in a chair. Saves time :)

New ship name idea: Vermilion and if you end up going to that station, might be a good idea to capture and repurpose it as your new base, would allow a space to dock all your ships, make large amounts of infrastructure, and just a long-ish term project for of you ever run out of ideas for an episode and don't want to explore.

I'm trying to remember right but also believe he approaches the ship from the bottom back. All the weapons were top mounted. The 400mm alone can't aim down enough to hit anything coming behind along with the rail gun. The single barrel gun was also blinded more. So I chalk it up for first start ship raid as pure luck being on his side.

Glad you're back with another episode. And also thankful for the bonus ice processor test that I've been meaning to do for myself for over a year and just keep forgetting about. It's good to know that using ice for only oxygen or for only hydrogen is not wasting it. It's also good to know that simultaneously using it for oxygen when I primarily want hydrogen actually is a waste. It would be nice if you'd get rid of the box on the right that says what tool you're holding. It's nothing but in the way. I think the default keybind you can use for that is [tab] but I could be wrong since I re-bound that years ago so I can use tab for inventory. The trackball mouse movement is also a tad annoying, but that's just a personal peeve of mine. Keep up the good work. People having nothing to complain about aside from picking at nits means you're doing pretty much everything right.

The fact that the H2O2 generator doubles production when making only one kind of gas also implies that it's violating the laws of thermodynamics and is, in fact, creating significant amounts of new matter whenever it makes oxygen. So that's a fun bit
@jlewwis1995
@jlewwis1995 8 ай бұрын
@@DWal32 actually the way I interpreted it was that for whatever reason for each unit of ice it creates both oxygen and hydrogen but it only preserves one of them and throws the other one away for seemingly no reason, that's obviously how it's coded in the game technically and that's presumably how the player is supposed to interpret it as well
@DWal32
@DWal32 8 ай бұрын

No it wasn't "Sus" that it didn't fire at you, we could tell the moment we saw the ship with those big assed modded weapons that you have weaponcore on which means the turrets have their AI turned off. To be fair to you, Keen did have the generator output both hydrogen and oxygen separately, and it would not run if it did not have space for both, and the proportions was the same as in real life, not 50/50, the hydrogen thrusters also required both, but that was changed for the sake of gameplay.

Great series so far. A few ideas for the future. The fighter that you took over can probably be remade to be a fighter for your own side without much modification and an even better one if you take control of it. With more modifications, you can turn it into a miner/scout ship. That base youve found could attach to your own ship to give you some much needed space or you can scrap it for materials to build out your own ship. This has been fun to watch and i cant waut until the next episode. See you then!

I am loving this series. You have a way of explaining things so elegantly it's literally wholesome to watch as you play this game. Now, I have tons of hours in this game, but that was YEARS ago. So, yeah I have no idea whats going on anymore. At the pace that you play, and stop to explain things, I can then recall from memory things from way back. And I thank you for that. I do have subs for a few other streamers, but they just show off ridiculous ships with 500 railguns or whatnot, cuz it's fun to check in on the game from time to time and see some chaos. BUT.. honestly I have forgotten how to play, I will admit. Realistically, yeah I would probably catch on quickly, considering I had played it before - way back, but its been a Long time though. Like the saying: Riding a bike, or something. Right? But heck, I don't even have the game installed. And I have forgotten a LOT of stuff by this point. But not having it installed doesn't stop me from wanting to refresh whats-what in terms of general survival. And that's where you shine, my good sir. As I was watching, I was soaking in the knowledge - like a dry sponge to water. And by the time you slapped in the Script to auto sort stuff, and THEN explained how and why it works, and THEN how to Set the auto-screen up, I breathed out a sigh of relief and smiled, as I knew I had found the right man to watch, to re-learn and recall the game as a whole. A guy with proper teaching, and makes it fun all the while. You have a knack for teaching, that's for sure. Now, as to the criticism you spoke of, yeah that could go in another series, I agree. Like spawning on a planet with nothing there to steal. It can be done, but takes alot of time. Hmm. Yes, its story time: When my friend got me into this game, he did just that. He showed me the everlasting time it takes to build up from nothing. We mined. We had no oxygen. We died alot.. We finally got a base floor down, and worked on building the machines. Machines I knew the function of, yet had no clue to how they worked. Everything was alien to me. But we pushed on and on. A time later, we began building a ship by hand. The first piece was this huuuge foot thing that just sat there on the ground, a single landing gear block. And he began to build upon it slowly, dealing with gravity all the while. Once done, we worked on both fuel production and atmosphere engines to get out of orbit, 2 huge engines with blades like a giant jet engine, pointed down I think. Hard to recall everything perfectly. That first time was the best, as it always sticks out in the mind. All that hard work, building up, working together, and getting off the planet. It was a glorious time. And one I will never forget. Later on, we started up a new game with tons of mods, since we - or I rather - had experienced the learning curve. We had shields, some kinda nanolathe drone hub that built ships for us - and also mined/deconstructed for us, a massive ship that moaned and groaned as it moved ever so slowly (and then fixed when we added some kind of red-colored super ion engines to it), and then built 2x small miner ships with the same ion engines, then found a huge asteroid and started hollowing it out - and built a base inside of it. After some time, I began feeling confident about how to do stuff, and removed the 4 drills on my small miner ship and started adding modded weapons, railguns, more red-colored ion thrusters, shields, extra feet to provide better structure for when I was hauling massive wrecks back to the base, extra blocks in front of vulnerable blocks - and a few half blocks infront of my cockpit. It was a wild ride, staring out a window with 4 massive railguns in each corner of the screen. A OP shield that, if I wanted - and tested, could plow - full speed - into anything really, without harm to the ship. All of the calculated dmg, gamewise, went to shield strength, and then to whatever you hit obviously. A random ship? Not a pretty sight. (yet another shiny wreck to haul back to base) A random asteroid? A huge hole. (Small disclaimer: But only 4 times before depleting! So no, it wasn't 100% invulnerable) It was a FUN time, and I miss it, I really do. I really do need to get back into this game. Soon. Yes, soon. Anyhow, Thank you for all the hard work that you put into these videos. I am now a huge fan, and look forward to future content!

Oh hey, I found the shields we used in the last game. It's called "Energy Shields" in Cython's Workshop, by Shaostoul & Cython. Main/front picture is of their base-version shield sitting on a base flooring, stuff in the backgrnd - same floor, no walls - no roof, base open to space itself. (asteroid or moon, not sure) I recall there being a version for base, large ship, and also small ships as well. Those shields work insanely WELL on small/med craft. Maybe even a little too well, having rammed into asteroids at full speed many many times for fun until they got too low. They are NOT "god mode" however, I will say that in their defense. And now I suddenly seem to recall an issue with them on that massive ship we had at the time. I think the mass and the insane amount of cargo we had in the ship caused massive headaches to either the game code or maybe just our CPU's, when we collided into something with the shields on. It never crashed the game, but would slow FPS down until it sorted out the calculations. And one other thing.. Don't hit anything at a high rate of speed with an enormous ship. It seems the game cannot sort out the correct damage to the shield, and some of it gets "through". My friend told me, where it should have not damaged the ship, the inertia variable seems to flip out the shield code, when added into the mass equaltion mixed in with massive amounts of vertical and other type block surfaces. Think 1996 Tomb Raider polygons VS 2018 Tomb Raider polygons. A shield, covering all those surfaces... It even gives me a headache thinking about it. So as long as your not flying around a massive titan, your good to go. But then again, perhaps they fixed that. Who knows. Eitherway, I do highly recommend them!

Those merge blocks are a weak point with some extra components. I would connect the cargo pods directly to the ship with armor blocks and THEN replace the merge blocks with armor blocks.

Im new here but i really enjoy these suit only survival videos, do you have a mod list to share for people that would like to try on their own? Edit: Nvm, turns out I missed the link to the mod collection in the description lol

I really like those science intermissions. That's actually fits the game. If it wasn't to win an argument you could always say you had to science the shit out of this. (Maybe I have another The Martian reference in the next Episode. 🙈)

Pro Tip: you can run Isy Main on the LCD of the Programmable block. You may even be able to put the Autobuild LCD on the second panel of the PB. You also have several LCDs on your flight seat you can use.

For external ship names, please consider the robots Huey, Dewey and Louie (not Disney related...well, indirectly) from 1972 movie 'Silent Running'. Before the mental health challenged Hal or the persistent Terminator, heck before the Energizer Bunny.

I really appreciated that you opportunistically captured the ship in such a thorough way. The ship is your reward for playing intelligently! Work smarter, not harder! Boo to people with no skin in the game for demanding that you suffer to amuse them. :D I imagine with the power of WC mods, you'll eventually run afoul of plenty of NPC suffering for their entertainment. Unlike other more well-known regular SE content creators, you didn't charge into a hail of interior turret gunfire for the umpteenth time, just for the content and another excuse to complain about how deadly accurate they are. :D I mean, it's entertaining either way, win or die. But it's refreshing to see a new SE series START with a fair number of basic, common best practices in SE. The few inaccuracies that you tripped on last episode have already been rectified, and I'm sure either your Google skills or an indignant comment section will rapidly correct any future missteps. I see those kinds of complaints/comments in a lot of ways. Like, tons of people seem to love demanding that Rimworld content creators play sea ice map challenges. But they don't really account for the fact that what they're asking is for a person to play 10+ hours of super boring drudge work, then spend hours more editing it down into 30 minutes of free/low-pay entertainment. Similar for the SE fly-by-night fans (fly-by-fans?) who insist that an SE playthrough is devoid of spiritual meaning if the player does not cleanse his soul with 3-6 hours of initial drudgery, hand mining, and slow (but more efficient) refining in the survival kit. It's also similar to whenever know-it-all commenters blow off a photo shoot, edited video, piece of artwork, creative writing, etc as being easy and "oh, anyone can just knock one out in a few hours." I think these people are just butthurt b/c 1) they don't actually play the game and don't really understand what goes into 30 minutes of edited entertainment, 2) they HAVE played dozens or hundreds of hours doing the same drudge work, and want to see others suffer what they suffered, in order to justify the hours they personally sank into drudge work, or 3) they are just very unhappy people who depend on schadenfreude to distract them from the miserable circumstances of their own inescapable lives. But then, I'm a very cynical person who assumes unpleasant things about others, so conclude what you will about my own life and commentary bias. :D Good, simple test. With a game this old that's seen lots of changes, people can get old facts mixed up with current states, or whatever. A few years ago, a lot of people were still mixed up on percentage yield rates from survival kits, basic refineries, refineries, and separately debated the best arrangements of modules for refineries. There's a guide (on Steam, I think?) from a guy who did a spreadsheet breaking down yields with the refinery types and with yield modules. He made it out of frustration over seeing people throwing around whatever factoid they last heard on the Internet. IIRC, my big takeaway was never use basic refineries once you have the stuff to build a full refinery. You can use basic refineries to 1) save space in small large-grid ships, and 2) to sort for only stone since most of us don't care about efficiency of stone refining (or even keeping stone around at all). For modules, there are some use cases for choosing less efficiency for more speed, if a player is absolutely rolling in high tier ore deposits and wants to set up a static drill rig. But generally I think the way it goes is you want all yield on a refinery that's sorted for high tier ores, and up to individual discretion for trading yield/speed on low tier ores, but 2 speed + 2 yield is a decent balance. The central hypothesis to test that I can remember is whether final refining yield is capped at 100% conversion of ore mass into ingot mass (which is logical, b/c you can't get more than 100 kg of iron ingot from 100 kg of iron ore). This would make it clearly pointless to refine e.g. iron ore with a refinery + 4 yield modules; better to put at least 3 yield + 1 speed module. There's also some testing people have done with armor penetration, ricochets, etc from the past few updates.Though that's a bit more niche and esoteric for the majority of players who aren't in this for purely the space combat sim physics (b/c SE's core gameplay loop is not really designed for it). Thruster damage cone, gyro placement effectiveness, damage range of exploding O2/H2 tanks, etc are stuff that people have done. But ALL of these things can be calculated accurately from using the BuildInfo mod (highly recommended and very lightweight on system resources), which includes precise numbers for all this. It also includes ice consumption rates and gas output rates for O2/H2 generators, though I think the specification format doesn't make clear your point about one gas only versus both simultaneously, so your test conclusively and uniquely demonstrated the limits of (y)our knowledge to everyone's satisfaction! :)

That H2O2 generator test was interesting but it doesn't really follow real physics which is a bit disappointing and not something I knew even though I've been playing the game for years. For every x units of water (ice in this case) you get 2 hydrogen and 1 oxygen. In your single tank cases, you should be throwing away the gas you weren't storing but in the two tank case, your weren't throwing any away so those tanks should have had 20,000 oxygen and 40,000 hydrogen like the first two tests but they had half that. Somehow the H2O2 generator is converting 20, 000 oxygen into 20,000 hydrogen or 40,000 hydrogen into 10,000 oxygen when it doesn't have anywhere to store the appropriate gas. I think a test with two tanks with the oxygen tank full and the hydrogen tank empty would be interesting to see if you get 20,000 or 40,000 hydrogen in that tank. At any rate, I may need to start rethinking my hydrogen and oxygen systems in the future.

If you have a full tank of O2 the generator will act as though the tank isn't there. Meaning you get the full hydrogen production in that instance.

Just as a note, my first thought for "adding a drill" was to just add it directly to the side of the ship right off the side of the refinery. It had the most clearance, it had sideways thrust, and it was already on the side of the ship where the ice was.. A small amount of tilting was all that would have been required.
