Yeah, this was such a messed up ending, I mean they die at the end of every space episode but all the creatures were just so hideous. Fun Fact: most of the designs (brain aliens, stomach monsters) were based on characters from an educational board game John K and friends worked on called Captain Quantum and the Ugly Druggies. Quite a leap.
