Soo i am in a monogamous relationship but I am still polyamorous - bc that is just who I am - it's not really a choice. I am highly adaptable though considering my partners comfort zone and pace. Thanks for comprehensive definitions but just gotta correct you on polygamy. Polygamy is very specifically one partner with many women. Poly = many. Gyny/gynae/Gyno = suffix for women. The singular partner is usally male, doesn't have to be but many polygamous societies existed long before the ENM movement across different parts of the world, mostly non-Western. And the multiple partners are women. Polyandry is the opposite - one woman (typically) with many men. Traditional polyandrous societies exist but they are few and far between compared to traditional polygamous societies. I would imagine that's why we have the term polyamory because that doesn't denote gender, it's just "many loves". And I would imagine the gender ratio is likely better in modern ENM relationship types, especially given the many different configurations of ENM, (from open to single poly to poly hinges to polycules etc).

I was in a poly relationship once with a guy and a girl and I ended it shortly after it started because he treated me better than our girlfriend.
