Welcome to Wonderhussy Adventure #772
Date of adventure: 2/2/24
I've driven through a place labeled "Evelyn" on the map dozens of times -- and always wondered what it was. Nowadays it's just a lone tree and a big asphalt circle -- but at one time it must have been some kind of settlement. Join me as I enlist the research powers of my sister, who works at the Shoshone Museum, to unlock the mystery of what went down at this lonely speck in the middle of nowhere!

5:12 My aunt did something similar. Her bestie was dying of cancer and she asked Gladys to marry her husband Paul. They were very happy together until Gladys passed away from esophageal cancer. Gladys passed along Uncle Paul to her other bestie, and they were very happy until he passed away. Paul was a very devoted husband, a devout Mormon, and loved by all who knew him. A Vietnam Vet friend of mine did the same thing. His wife passed away from cancer, and she asked her bestie to take care of and marry her husband when she passed away. He was married to the first wife for 20+ years, and so far he’s been married to the second wife just as long.

❤ She's been on a few times before. Not too long ago she appeared with Sarah talking with a man from Europe at a local air bnb rental trailer, another time spilunkerering with Ross at the Tecopa mines, she also appeared filling sand bags during the death valley flood (attempt to keep water out of their house) while Sarah went to the Villa Anita Ball without her, last year(?) she was hanging a sail shade at their compound, and before that at their mom's house during Christmas. ^But yes it was great to see her again. LoL --> Gee whiz, you would think I was obsessed or something... Perhaps. She stole my heart hanging their sail shade while sporting a pair of baggy overalls! ❤

Good research! Interesting. Yes, actually back in the early 1900's you could actually order a house from Sears & Roebuck and they would deliver the materials by train. The Burlington RR use to run through our farm in Osborn, Mo which was the only way to ship cattle, and get supplies.

Great piece of sleuthing by your sister and yourself! Old railroads are fascinating! In Montana there are old railroad grades everywhere. Some of the most interesting were never completed because of WWI interruptions or simply ran out of money. A grade between Lewistown and Winnett, MT had some cool tunnels and fills; and another north of Lewistown has several tall trestles of both steel and wood. Another near Pryor, MT was in operation for less than 10 years when, because of operating at a huge loss, the railroad tore it up nearly overnight, dodging any legal effort to prevent the closure. A highway now uses most of the original grade.

Well this may have been a video about a long dead town, but this was one of your most comprehensive videos. We had you in the middle of nowhere, but then making your way to the metropolis of Shoshone, we had your ever improving drone camera skills, we got a detailed, review of how Evelyn came to exist, operated and then moved into the realm of long past history, and then we found out some very important information, we found out that you have a in with the Shoshane and surrounding areas history, with WonderSis (I love that name). An excellent 19 minute video, about basically some railroad ruins located in one of the many dots on the map in Death Valley. Starting 2024 in to fomr, if not in full voice from the Coco Puffs!

Last time I was through Shoshone I was traveling to and from a music gig in Tonopah. On the way home, we stopped and saw that the museum happened to be open, so my mom and I went through it. Let me tell you, they have gathered a lot more information since then. I do remember that the mammoth bone was there. Glad to see it still is. It was the 'main attraction' of the museum. Fantastic video Sarah. In the 50-60 years I've been traveling the desert, I never knew the story behind the 'Evelyn Site'.. It's so cool to know that Eliza works at the Shoshone museum.. Back in the early 60's I used to get gas at the station which is now the museum, (26 cents/gal) I used to drive a service truck through there every two weeks. I remember I accidentily popped some of their florescent tubes with a tall radio antenna I had on my truck...... Anyway, thanks for a great story!!!!!

Shoshone ! I discovered this village in 2013 and I also visited their museum, which is so typical of this real America that I love so much ! Nothing has changed ! Nothing apart from the person at reception... The old rusty Chevrolet is still there ! The contrast the next day with Las Vegas will be brutal... Otherwise, I have excellent memories of Shoshone and the surrounding area and a hundred photographs of the landscapes ! Thanks to you I now know why the place is called Evelyn... Good job ! A detail that might make you smilemy Americans friends, but at the time, it was the first time that I discovered in the Chevron gas station located opposite the museum, a roller grill for hot dogs and sausages... I was amused because before, I had only seen them in the Americans movies... Now I'm used to it since, as an expatriate, I left France and my native Provence and his lavender fields many years ago, but every time I see a roller grill I think : Shoshone ! I know it's ridiculous but that's how it is ! Waiting, thank you dear Sarah Jane for these beautiful places that I am rediscovering regularly, thanks to you ! Oh yes ; just one thing to you and your sister : I love you both ! 💙💙

I am glad your sister decided to appear in one of your videos. She is equally as lovely as you. I hope she will appear in some of your other videos. It was really interesting to discover Evelyn's history. Keep up the excellent work.

How nice to finally see your Sister! Great story of love that knows no age boundaries. I'm 61 widower and would like a young gal. Thank you Sarah and Sis!

A great Wonderhussy adventure. Love this collaboration with your sister. There may be scores of potential stories from Shoshone. Possibly an entire series of Shoshone area sagas supplied with some support by Sarah's sister. ❤❤😊
