I'm doing my thesis on this and I need to call BS on some of the video's claims. I cannot find anything about the Russians taking the Caucasus to start a new crusade, can anyone cite a source for that? I also can't find anything about the Russians beleiving he was Georgian. The subtitles say Kazakh instead of cossack at 5:05, Kazakhs are people from Kazakhstan, Cossacks are Russian explorers. 1:05 "they did not allow this superpower to move", that's factually untrue as well. Russia had very strong territorial control of the lands completely sorrounding Chechnya and Dagestan, they acquired what is now Armenia and Azerbaijan from Persia after the treaty of Gulistan in 1813. Russia had no more territorial ambitions, if anything was stopping them from getting the holy land it was the Ottoman empire, the real reason Russia expanded into the Caucasus was to have complete control of the black sea, have a more secure border against the ottomans and persians, stop raids from the Caucasian peoples into Russia and later oil that was in the Caspian sea area. There were some religious aims, protecting Christian groups like the Georgians and spreading Christianity but these weren't primary goals, they were more things they used to justify the war. I really cannot find ANY source that says Russia was thinking about doing another Crusade especially since during Iman Shamil's life time Russia was involved in the Napeolinic war, crimean war, expansion into Central asia etc.

All that matters is he was a great Muslim who followed sunnah, excelled in academics, a pious person and a brave leader who unified Muslims with a strong will to defend his people and Islam against enemies.

you shoould not enjoy this video, its actually extremely innacurate. I'm not a historian but im writing my thesis on this and there's a lot of things wrong. The Russians had no desire of starting a new crusade, I could find no info on the Russians not believing Iman Shamil was not muslim, they had dealt with similar men before like Sheikh Mansur. The subtiles put kazakh instead of Cossack at 5:05. 1:05 he said Shamil didn't allow the super power to move, which isn't true as the Russians took eastern kabardia during his uprising and they had already acquiered what is now part of Dagestan, Armenia and Azerbaijan from Iran after the 1813 treaty of Gulistan. Iman Shamil didn't stop the Russians, they were a nuissance for sure to the Tsar but never posed a massive threat, Russia dealt with far larger issues like the Crimean war during his uprising.

IMAM SHAMIL fought for 24 years and 10 months. His sister, so that her body would not be touched by the Russians, threw herself off a cliff and died. He gave one of his sons to the Russians to save his soldiers; after many years he returned and died in Dagestan. Dozens of Avar villages in Dagestan were burned for their obscurity. Another son, after the end of the war in Dagestan, moved to Turkey and became the head of the Dagestan regiment in Turkey. Truly, this is a legendary person. May Allah forgive his sins.

Ahmad i like Imam Shamil may Allah have mercy on him. but he surrendered and went to the russians while his chechen friend Baysangur of benoea was shouting after him telling him not to surrender.. he left without looking back to his friend.. when the russians asked him why he didnt look back.. he said if i have looked back he would have shout me bcuz chechens never shout in the back. while he was in mecca enjoying his wealth his friend who made him the Imam of Chechnya was hanged in Dagestan. the russians wanted to make it.look like the dagestanians hanged him to make chechens and dagestanians fight each other.. baysangur knew it he threw the chair and hanged himself. too sad that nobody talks about this great man who did more than Imam Shamil.

I am of Russian descent, and the subject of Shamil and his heroic resistance has always impressed and interested me a great deal. What many don't realize is that the Russian Czar and generals had tremendous respect and admiration for the Great Shamil and his accomplishments against such tremendoys odds, and they received and treated him as a Hero and equal, though Shamil expected to be treated as a prisoner or even killed when captured. To the contrary. After visiting Russia, he soon loved it and the people, and said that had he known his enemy (Russia) sooner, he would have never opposed the Russians. This can be verified, though perhaps not politically popular these days. Either way, I believe together, it is beneficial to all within the former Russian Empire to stand and help one another, particularly against previous and potential threats and negative influence. If i may, i'd like to wish with my Caucasian, and all other brothers, that the Great Imam Shamil be alive in our hearts forever as an example to us all, and may his memory be eternal.

I'm doing my thesis on this and I need to call BS on some of your claims. I cannot find anything about the Russians taking the Caucasus to start a new crusade, can anyone cite a source for that? I also can't find anything about the Russians beleiving he was Georgian. The subtitles say Kazakh instead of cossack at 5:05, Kazakhs are people from Kazakhstan, Cossacks are Russian explorers. 1:05 "they did not allow this superpower to move", that's factually untrue as well. Russia had very strong territorial control of the lands completely sorrounding Chechnya and Dagestan, they acquired what is now Armenia and Azerbaijan from Persia after the treaty of Gulistan in 1813. Russia had no more territorial ambitions, if anything was stopping them from getting the holy land it was the Ottoman empire, the real reason Russia expanded into the Caucasus was to have complete control of the black sea, have a more secure border against the ottomans and persians, stop raids from the Caucasian peoples into Russia and later oil that was in the Caspian sea area. There were some religious aims, protecting Christian groups like the Georgians and spreading Christianity but these weren't primary goals, they were more things they used to justify the war. I really cannot find ANY source that says Russia was thinking about doing another Crusade especially since during Iman Shamil's life time Russia was involved in the Napeolinic war, crimean war, expansion into Central asia etc.
