Cannot understand the fact they haven't made a movie about Leif and his discovery yet. I know there's an animated film, but (apart from having a terrible animation), depicts Leif as a kid and has fantastical elements, so it's as faithful to historical events as the animated Titanic movies.

People can argue all they want, it’s still a discovery. Natives discovered it first. Old Worlders discovered it later on. To discover something means you find something you never knew about, therefore, Leif Erickson discovered America several centuries after Native Americans discovered it.

It’s like you just ignored the first two sentences of my last comment. If you read everything I said, you would have understood what I said. I will say this for the final time. Discover means you found something you never knew about. It applies perfectly to what happened, despite Europeans discovering the land centuries after Native Americans discovered it.

Thank you! That was the point I was trying to make! There's a lack of logic of people saying "Oh Leif Erickson/Christopher Columbus discovered America", negating the fact that people have already lived here for thousands of years. It's nonsensical and illogical in a holistic, anthropological viewpoint.
@andrewyerian214
@andrewyerian214 2 жыл бұрын
To discover something means you find something you never knew about. The Americas were unknown to people from the Old World, so, the Americas were discovered when Old Worlders found it. That’s literally what it means when people say Leif discovered America.

Well, technically, Leif Erickson never discovered America. It was already discovered by the Native Americans. I honestly don't understand why so many people still give credit to the Vikings (and Columbus) for discovering America over people that have already inhabited the land for thousands of years - it just doesn't make any sense to me. Bottom line, the Native Americans discovered America, not the White European men. I am so tired of arguing with people over who discovered America, or who got here first. If anyone has a problem with that, I just won't speak of the subject anymore. Apparently half of us don't get it, and I’m tired of arguing with people over this.
