Cannot understand the fact they haven't made a movie about Leif and his discovery yet. I know there's an animated film, but (apart from having a terrible animation), depicts Leif as a kid and has fantastical elements, so it's as faithful to historical events as the animated Titanic movies.

That is so true other than Native American tribes the Vikings were the first outsiders to come to the America.

People can argue all they want, it’s still a discovery. Natives discovered it first. Old Worlders discovered it later on. To discover something means you find something you never knew about, therefore, Leif Erickson discovered America several centuries after Native Americans discovered it.
@andrewyerian2142 жыл бұрын
@@alicerivierre Nobody is saying Europeans discovered it first. Nobody is implying that. I stand by what discovery means and nobody is going to change that.
@andrewyerian2142 жыл бұрын
Why do you think I said nobody is saying Europeans discovered America first??? Because it’s fact and I already knew that from my elementary school days. It’s like you just ignored the first two sentences of my last comment. If you read everything I said, you would have understood what I said. I will say this for the final time. Discover means you found something you never knew about. It applies perfectly to what happened, despite Europeans discovering the land centuries after Native Americans discovered it.

How can he discover something when thousands of people already lived there?
@alicerivierre2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! That was the point I was trying to make! There's a lack of logic of people saying "Oh Leif Erickson/Christopher Columbus discovered America", negating the fact that people have already lived here for thousands of years. It's nonsensical and illogical in a holistic, anthropological viewpoint.
@andrewyerian2142 жыл бұрын
To discover something means you find something you never knew about. The Americas were unknown to people from the Old World, so, the Americas were discovered when Old Worlders found it. That’s literally what it means when people say Leif discovered America.
@andrewyerian2142 жыл бұрын
With that said, that doesn’t negate Native Americans discovering it first. You can discover something that was already discovered.
@alicerivierre2 жыл бұрын
@@andrewyerian214 I still acknowledge the fact that Native Americans were the first to discover America, not Leif Erickson, not Christopher Columbus. All that stuff about the Vikings and Columbus "discovering" America is nothing but white-washed history. What about Native Americans? Don't they matter in history? I mean that just something everyone should consider in a holistic perspective, not just Euro-centric or White-centirc.
@andrewyerian2142 жыл бұрын
@@alicerivierre Nobody said they don’t matter. Nobody said Europeans were the first to discover America. Discover means you find something you never knew about, so it is perfectly logical to say Leif Erickson discovered America. He just happened to discover it centuries after Native Americans discovered it.

Well, technically, Leif Erickson never discovered America. It was already discovered by the Native Americans. I honestly don't understand why so many people still give credit to the Vikings (and Columbus) for discovering America over people that have already inhabited the land for thousands of years - it just doesn't make any sense to me. Bottom line, the Native Americans discovered America, not the White European men. I am so tired of arguing with people over who discovered America, or who got here first. If anyone has a problem with that, I just won't speak of the subject anymore. Apparently half of us don't get it, and I’m tired of arguing with people over this.
