Ṭāriq ibn Ziyād (Arabic: طارق بن زياد), also known simply as Tarik in English, was a Berber commander who served the Umayyad Caliphate and initiated the Muslim Umayyad conquest of Visigothic Hispania (present-day Spain and Portugal) in 711-718 AD. He led an army and crossed the Strait of Gibraltar from the North African coast, consolidating his troops at what is today known as the Rock of Gibraltar. The name "Gibraltar" is the Spanish derivation of the Arabic name Jabal Ṭāriq (جبل طارق), meaning "mountain of Ṭāriq", which is named after him.

Since name of the channel is "Reliable Sources" due to which careful research is expected instead of narration of a script from a movie. Tariq was selected as leader of expedition just because of :- (1) Berber origins leading to deal Berber troops with ease. They had already killed Aqaba Bin Nafeh (the conqueror of Maghreb) just few years ago. (2) Tariq was stationed as governor of Tangiers, who, because of proximity, was the most relevant person. Secondly, Role of Tareef Bin Malik is completely ignored in the narration. He was the first person to land in Spain and a city named Tariffa still exist today. He landed with troops and prepare report for Tariq of what all is required for the expedition. Thirdly, Count Julian was count of Ceuta (Sabta) which was Byzantine Outpost in the region. Florinda La Cava was his daughter. Roderic was accused of raping or attempt to rape the lady and not of marriage intentions as Roderic married Engiliona same year, who later become Umm e Asim, wife of Abdul Aziz Bin Musa Bin Nusair and ultimate cause of his debacle few years later. The character looking for his daughter Bilquis donot appear in real history and it's just over-flavoring to demonize Roderic. With the exception of Tariq's motivational address, Islamic motive had very less to do with conquest of Spain. No mass conversions, no land grabbing , no plundering as attributed to conquerors in most of the cases etc. People did stir it up to flavor it as Holy War but character of conquest was not as such even many years ahead. This rhetoric is also the work of western historians who try to justify their atrocities of Reconquista and term the actions as natural effect of Muslim Conquest. The society of tolerance was and is unmatched in terms of progress. Reconquista may have homogenized the society in terms of religion but it broke the real core, the abstractness and progressive society as a result.
