Following in the footsteps of his legendary father Ragnar Lothbrook, Bjorn Ironside was said to have been known as a fierce leader and eventually a king. His exploits would see him reach the shores of Andalusia and even see him in a standoff with the outskirts of Rome.

The historic Bjorn Ironside was actually waaaaay more cool and badass then the tv-version. Not only did he raided in Britain and France with his father, but he also was one of the commanders of the ''Great Heathen Army'' and the first Viking to sail into the Mediterrenean Sea. He's pretty much rsponsible for the image that Vikings have as fearless warriors & skilled sailors.

Not just probably, thats actually what the saga says. I dont understand why people are trying to bury this! He is swedens version of king arthur at the very least. From the saga of rahnar lothbrok: Follow the link, original old norse plus translation. "The sons of Lodbrok went raiding in many lands: England, Normandy, France, and out over Lombardy. But it’s said the furthest they got was when they took the town of Luni. And one time they thought of going to Rome and taking that. And their warrings have become the most famous in all the northlands where Norse is spoken. And when they come back to their realm in Denmark, they shared out the lands between them. Bjorn Ironside got Uppsala and central Sweden and all the lands that belong to that, and it’s told that Sigurd Snake-in-Eye had Zealand and Scania and Halland, and Oslo Fjord, and Agder as far as Lindesnes and a good portion of the Norwegian Uplands, while Hvitserk had Reidgotaland and Wendland." www.germanicmythology.com/FORNALDARSAGAS/ThattrRagnarsSonar.html "Björn Ironside (Old Norse: Bjǫrn Járnsíða; Icelandic: Björn Járnsíða; Swedish: Björn Järnsida; Danish: Bjørn Jernside; Medieval Latin: Bier Costae ferreae) was a Norse Viking chief and legendary king of Sweden. According to the 12th- and 13th-century Scandinavian histories, he was the son of the notorious and historically dubious Viking king Ragnar Lodbrok. He lived in the 9th century, being securely dated between 855 and 858.[1] Björn Ironside is said to have been the first ruler of the Swedish Munsö dynasty. In the early 18th century, a barrow on the island of Munsö was claimed by antiquarians to be Björn Järnsidas hög or Björn Ironside's barrow.[2][3] Medieval sources refer to Björn Ironside's sons and grandsons, including Erik Björnsson and Björn at Haugi.[4] His descendants in the male line supposedly ruled over the Swedes until c. 1060." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bj%C3%B6rn_Ironside

@@jakechambers1739 Where did you trace them to him? What service was that a DNA one liek 23andme? See its funny right, that some people say they can trace themselves back to him but historians cant say for absolute certainty that he actually existed. I dont know how those two things are logically put together. He is swedens version of king Arthur (no matter what the series the vikings said, just look at were Kattegatt is on a map) Its not norway not back then either. He is regarded as the first swedish king however only a legendary one. They do believe its more likely that he actually existed than Ragnar but he is still considered a legendary king. Ive met others online who claim the same, all of them from american funnily enough who claim to be a decendant of Ragnar, How on earth thats possible i dont know. This grave belongs to someone who had that name, but whther he was the Björn from the stories or not is a different matter. In a neighbouring grave the found a woman viking buried, im related to her, dna testing 23andme. I feel like.. growing uo in swedne, visitng the place.. all the newly opened museums ect...that they would announce an offical finding of his dna is beyond me. and makes no sense. I smell a fish buried. A stinky one. But fine, for sources go to The icelandic sagas" those are pretty much the only ones except for som monks ect thorugh history. But yeah the icelandic sagas, written hundreds of years after the fact, are the only sources...so yeah he is a legendary king and im sorry but you're n ot related to him.

Take it for what it is. Stories and Sagas first written down 400 years after the presumed events are often just stories, largely coloured and influenced by contemporary European sagas. Ragnar Lodbrok on it’s own is a character melted together from mainly two people that lived in different countries. Björn Järnsida only appears in one source and it’s from the 13th century.

I am a descendant of Björn Ironside and it’s true through doing genealogy Aslaug is Björn’s mother not Lagertha. Also I’m a descendant of Rollo and it is impossible for him to be Ragnar’s brother since Rollo wasn’t born until after Björn died. Most Americans don’t care to study true history they just believe everything on tv. I’m American as well so I can truly say this because I’ve had to correct many people on the true history of Vikings. Also Lagertha had one son named Fridleif and two daughters with Ragnar who’s names have not recorded and nobody truly knows how or when she died if she truly existed at all. Grammaticus had truly a brilliant mind but was a misogynist as were most all men of the church at the time according to the church, shieldmaidens were an example of disorder because men of the church only saw women as sexual beings for reproduction and had their roles and are less than men. The church changed all this when they forced Christianity upon the Heathens. Grammaticus also said that Lagertha was an Amazon woman.

In real life bjorn ironside did that and not ragnar in order to enter luna, after hearing storys about troy) and uniting sweden to become the first king of kings. You state much of this as fact when in reality its best guess work, the biggest myth being that Ragnar was the father of Bjorn and co when in reality they were most likely not even brothers, the chronical and sagas are terribly unreliable and many of the dates contradict each other by as much as 20 years. My history professor studied the late dark ages for over 30 years and the way he put it was that ancient texts from viking period were a great work of fantasy with a dollop of truth thrown in somewhere, you''ll find more accurate writings from the scribes and monks from all over Britain from that period although they are not easy to find.

Team Bjorn all the way (well actually team Lagertha). In the show he is going to have to Kill Lagertha and that will tell them he is Ragnar son. That will lead him to leave and give Kattagat to Harald. I hope he gets a good ending and Lagertha has her death be meaningful and of course for Ragnar to be the one to greet her and lead her to Valhalla or to become a Valkyrie. She deserves a good end if for no other reason, because she was always loyal. Everyman let her down but she was always there for them.
@alexman378
@alexman378 4 жыл бұрын
I don’t think her becoming a Valkyrie would be a happy ending for her. We see that she constantly talks about wanting out of the violence in her life in her later years, she just keeps getting pulled back in. So her afterlife being all about overseeing battles, being a warrior entity and picking up dead soldiers to deliver to Valhalla doesn’t seem like something she would want.
