Told my kiddos - THIS is what they would be learning and taught by me... we spent many summers reading, listening and researching this sort of history; the stories came up organically.... from frustration of MLK and I.have.a.dream while a great speech; King had many others.... kids ask about family pictures of folks in military uniforms type of questions.

Our elders were/are so humble. They did amazing things and some don’t talk about it outright. They leave clues like “loving French culture” like the young lady did. As Black history month program manager I discovered and introduced this group to many in my organization about 2016 when the month concentrated on amazing Black women. Can’t wait to watch the movie on Friday.

This was a very enlightening show. My father taught me at a young age that we all are merely the products of our environment. So to watch a discussion between actual family members and an actress from this necessary historical drama was very interesting. Kudos to Tyler Perry for making this piece of forgotten history a reality. And kudos to Family Search for their efforts to incorporate this history. I love AncestryDNA because it has revolutionized genealogical research and I’m also passionate about reconnecting African-American History with The Republic of Liberia. This is another connection we tend to forget.

I’ve heard so little from my family that lived through it. It something they had to do to survive. Which give me and all descendants of very proud of the path they laid for our future in America 🇺🇸. I’m so thankful for their service.

I always knew of the black women's battalion but never know what they were called. Can't wait to see the movie. I saw this picture, but the true history was always hidden. My uncle was a member of "The Triple Nickle 555." The black men paratroopers unit. Learning Morris code was something that I was told to learn as a child, it was really important black children to learn back then. It was known as a survival technique that could be used with flashlights, mirrors or any item that reflects light but you have to know how to flash the light to get your message across to whoever.

So, so proud of black women including my lovely wife. Thank you so very much, Tyler Perry and Kerry for an outstanding performance. I have seen it twice and each time I cry for a couple of reasons. The black women did it then against all odds and they are still doing it today against all odds. 17, 000,000 letters in 90 days? This is probably one of Tyler's greatest works because it reminded us of history and also provided context. This elevates our morals and pride just like the letters did back then for the soldiers. Young black girls should now know grandmas were amazing. 10,000 black men today could not pull off that fit today because we have grown unfocused, defeated, and have not learned the basic skills needed to survive. The ladies used all their skill sets to pull that amazing fit off. Congratulations the 6888 unit.
