This is a wonderful event...my grandfather was a bricklayer of distinction and taught me the art.. . I still have his tools and use them to do odd tasks like 'pointing '. I am a South African, my one grandad Dutch and the other an Englishman!

Yes Charlie and Tom, I remember Tom just starting out with Charlie and he was going through different hoddies every few months and people would say about Tom being boring or quiet but Tom was always on time and working hard I knew he was a good one. It was very close this year! Charlie did lose 3/4 minutes through a problem with his corner block setup but it was still very close! Like you said, great effort from everyone! Next year should be bigger and better

I don't think its a good advertisement for the younger generation wanting to learn the trade! Its getting just like the Spec Mix USA ive seen more mortar on the floor than anything else! Id rather see something like the Skillbuild competition something technical/creative rather than just lashing bricks down and making a mess!

Charlie did make a video addressing this point and it’s not how apprentices should aspire to work to. Deductions are very strict and at the end of the day it’s about bringing the industry together. This comp will do may more good than harm for an industry and is already severely short of young people
