G'day Ben and the Hoselink team, I really enjoyed working together on this project. Besides being a ton of fun, I found the experiment side very interesting! I really love longer-term projects like this cut down and shown in stages as it compresses everything into one easy-to-follow piece of content. Thanks again for the opportunity. Cheers :)

@tashmartin8869

@John Gault I think the eco friendly part of Mark's approach is great. BUT THIS IS ALSO ABOUT MAKING GARDENING ACCESSIBLE TO ALL! EVEN JUST LETTUCES IN A POT WILL SAVE MORE PLASTIC THAN THIS! ALSO, we're not all in a situation to do the same thing. What if you have an apartment with balcony? Sure, you can ABSOLUTELY grow food, but you're not making your own chicken compost! Consider that YES there's a LOT of plastic on Ben's side, those are individualized fertilizers vs Mark's "all purpose compost" so those ferts will last a LONG time, whereas Mark's are probably high in nitrogen (manure does that!) So he might get a great crop of some veges but not others, Ben on the other hand has more control of fertilization (based on the way they did this this video if Ben chose to) As a last point, those bags aren't soft recyclable, BUT, use the large ones, poke a few drainage holes in them and they're either a pot or grow bag! And before someone says "plastic leaches" most affordable pots and those best for vege growing = plastic. I have tomatoes, bush pumpkins, potatoes and so much more growing in horse feed bags or friends who buy compost bags. If I use them just once it makes a HUGE difference on space in my garden and my wallet and pantry!! (I get MANY uses out of horse feed bags and depending on what I grow, several out of compost) Please consider that a space like Mark's is some people's DREAM, but also time plays a huge factor into Mark's approach, but this basically shows anyone you're able to grow your own food, and the "footprint" on that is smaller than the plastic bags alone!

Hi Mark. i must say i look at a lot of youtube and find your chanel the best advice on growing vegetables. May be because you are down to earth Ozie, as i'm from northern Vic. Ok that's enough sucking up. My name is Bob beecroft i'm 70 years old and i have just started vegetable gardening. I took up wood carving when i retired so have a good supply of sawdust. As i'm just getting into this gardening caper i have a question i would like to through at you. two weeks ago i started a raised garden bed. filled the bottom with wood then sticks and some foliage, then dirt, the last 300 mil with horse shit and straw, then covered with mulch. (i have a large horse complex over the road) the top of the garden bed is doing its thing and getting quite hot. my question is should i turn that over every now and then or just leave it. i will not try to grow anything in the garden for 2 or 3 months. thanks bob
