I believe Golbez is our shard. His personality also looks more like twisted, villainous version of Azem. He is unifying the voidsent to "win redemption for the star" and have his four fiends companions. Like Azem, who unites people, always have trusted companions and saving the world. All Azems we know of share this traits so far. That statue of paladin in Zero's domain is probably Golbez before corruption, and it looks like he wearing lvl 90 artifact armor.

Im still in the group thst believes our voidsent we pact with as a Reaper is the corrupt soul Shar of Azem. Would explain why it was so easy to make a pact with and since it's so corrupted by darkness, would be the closest way to have it atm without being able to change them back

After I finished the MSQ, I immediately went to the First to see if their dialogue had changed. I'm glad they did, but I'm hoping they will be involved in this story, even if its just side content, cos I dont wanna see Cyella and Unukalhai get shafted :/

It'll be difficult but not unheard of, to force them to be part of the 13th's conclusion. It will either require revamping the ShB role quests into not including either, which removes a lot of the backstory of both, or forcing people to complete the role quests and the warring triad, which can be done (see CT raids) but SE would have to remove the level restriction on the role quests which defeats the purpose of the role quests.

I really really hope so too. It wouldn’t be too much trouble to make Warring Triad required content but for Cylla they would need to give her some sort of TL;DR quest so people don’t have to level up 5 jobs just to get to her quest. I love those characters and hope they come along (maybe the hunters too! Especially Nylebert’s little buddy since he can OPEN WHOLE PORTALS into the void. )

Currently, I believe there is a significance to the word “redemption” instead of “salvation” which was used for the First. I do not believe the thirteenth will ever go back to normal. Voidsent enemies have been around since the beginning and it would be hell to code them all out for only the characters who reach a story milestone. Instead, I believe that the Thirteenth will be redeemed in a matter not unlike the beast tribes, in that a nation will be formed, perhaps ruled by a ‘saved’ Azdaya, and a connection to the Source will be formed for the purposes of trade and stuff. I have absolutely nothing to corroborate this theory, but I think it would be cooler than just doing what we did in shadowbringers all over again.

Thing is, the game kind of treats anything you do early on in the story as having taken place in the past. If you go and do a quest involving a very important NPC from Heavensward after that NPC is gone, the game will treat them like they haven't gone and they will be exactly where they disappeared from. The 13th could be saved and everything involving them took place "in the past" for players who have played current content.

The old content is in a "time bubble", like Garlean soldiers in Mor Dhona still there and attacking you even after Endwalker.

The idea of having a constant connection to the 13th is really interesting. Would definitely fit with y'shtola's desire to find a way to freely travel between shards and seems like it would be a perfect first step on the road to future story content where we follow up on Emmet-selch's speech on how the civilizations in the other reflections would surprise us.

Zero being effectively the voidsent version of Vauthry definitely got some gears turning in my head Easy call is that she’s our shard, but I feel like that’s almost too obvious for the writing team at this point Golbez on the other hand. . . A forgotten hero of the thirteenth as the statue in zero’s domain clad in 90 PLD gear? Redemption for the doomed star? Potentially killing/consuming the Watcher of the thirteenth? Building an army of trusted associates? And to say nothing of Hydaelyn’s crystal returning zero to a human form, and yoshi saying Krile is gonna have a big part to play in upcoming events as well as some giant world-changing event taking place to lead into 7.0, hoo boy something is gonna happen to the void or the source as a result of the void

I’m hoping that Zero is our shard. Hydaelyn’s crystal cleansing her makes her a strong candidate between the two. Not only that, during an interview with Yoshi-P an interviewer asked if there would be plans to have the WoL’s/Meteor’s female counterpart appear, he said something along that lines that that “is an interesting concept and that he would consider it” I do hope that Zero is a product of that question.

It's really unfortunate that they put Cylva and Unukalhai between multiple layers of optional content, even requiring a level 80 of each role. They should be so important right now but because of they way they were implemented they're just hidden away. They should, at least, do some sort of quest for the people that haven't done the optional content to bring them into the main story line. As far as Zero, she's hiding things and I have a feeling she may have eaten her own mother for some reason. She specifically omitted any mention of her fate.

Aye, it really felt like those void quests were all for nothing, if we ended up going there with a completely different set of people. They got robbed. But it's also a matter of them kinda writing themselves in a corner. Its too unreasonable to make them a part of the MSQ, cos they are locked behind Warring Triad, ShB Role Quests and the Void Quests. Would the trip to the 13th have worked better as a sidequest so they could have featured? Who knows. But they can still at least do some extra quest at the end involving them, so I really hope that's the case and they don't simply forget about them.

It's possible they'll do what they did at the start of ShB with G'raha Tia, and introduce them as someone the player has never met before. Originally, you didn't HAVE to do the Crystal Tower series to do ShB, G'raha would just say that the WoL would meet his past self at some point in the future. They only made it mandatory at the end of I believe 5.3 when you took G'raha home. And I'm pretty sure Alexander and Omega aren't necessary for the Twinning, even though it references that content. And doing their original quests wouldn't have to change either. Most side content is considered by the game to be in a time bubble. I remember doing Alexander on my alt at the end of SB while the Scions were comatose, but there Urianger and Y'shtola were in the hinterlands. In fact, I'm reasonably sure that Urianger stays in the Waking Sands in his original outfit if you haven't done the EX primals from ARR, despite the fact that his storyline has moved on. For people who haven't done the role quests and Warring Triad, they could just be surviving denizens of the Thirteenth turned Ascian subordinate that are now directionless after Elidibus' death. It would be easy enough to introduce them with Ryne and Gaia (making Eden necessary to complete), simply stating that they saw what WoL and the Scions did for the First and are wondering if it's possible to do for their home world, and have special dialogue if you happen to have completed their content. They did that with Estinien; if the player had played DRG prior to HW, he recognised WoL as a fellow Azure Dragoon from the class quests. But if not, you were strangers.

Spitballing here - Golbez is a splinter of the same shard as Gaius. Similar leadership / conquest ideals, similar speech patterns and mannerisms.

This will sounds like a reach but I think Krile is going to play a big role in either 6.3 or 6.4 by joining the WoL in the 13th and using her special power to track the remainder of the memoriate and the WoL using the hydaelyn crystal to turn them back to normal and proceed to start returning the world down redemption.

The blessing line from Golbez is quite curious. In either case, he could be talking about Zero or the WoL - I noticed he omitted the usual "blessing of light" that is usually mentioned as a whole. On a technicality, the WoL does NOT strike down (defining as killing, incapacitate or otherwise unable to take action) the voidsent - it's Zero with her crystalizing power. In this case, I don't think he's talking about the echo at all and is referencing a memoriate. I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop as the conflict was called the "contramemoria" war. Contra being a prefix to mean 'in opposition to.' It didn't go past me how oddly named contramemoria and memoriate are. Add in Golbez's line in Japanese and it adds to the implications. The last time we dealt with memories and the term "memoria" was Cid re-visiting his memories of his father and the fall of Dalamud, giving us the trial Memoria Misera. The Fell Court of Troia boasted some rather important looking portraits in one of the rooms, including a rather large female's portrait.

Shadowed Past is SUCH a good sidequest, every time I get Troia in my expert roulette I've been telling people to check it out. The really dangerous question is, as has been shown on the Source, Dynamis has been shown to convert aether... what happened during the song of oblivion? Is there another blasphemy on the 13th waiting to be discovered?

I'm pretty sure when we speak to Ryne during the EW msq she said the first wasn't being affected by the end of days, so I assume the same can be said of the 13th. The big thing was that if the source is destroyed then all the other shards would also collapse.

Keep in mind Dynamis is normally weaker than aether. Dynamis can do that only if it is in a large enough quantity and has the required emotion to overpower aether. It can’t convert aether either because aether is a separate form of energy. It cannot be destroyed. Y’shtola describes it disintegrating due to the effects, like mud flaking away. So it’s been reduced, not destroyed. Big difference.

Whoa hold up… I JUST now thought about this. So it’s clear there is some kind of connection between Golbez and Zero right? We don’t know what that connection is yet but there is something. So like you said we are led to believe that Zero’s human form is her “true” form, but we have yet to see what her voidsent form is. Now yes we saw her avatar form but that was manifested by Zenos’ will. So. What if Zero’s true form is Zeromus, the entity that controlled Golbez in FF4? She claims she’s never heard of Golbez before but what if that’s what the title “buried memory” is implying? Not a very detailed theory but it’s certainly not a coincidence that they named her Zero and Zeromus was the true big bad in FF4

After finishing the MSQ myself, here is my personal idea. Golbez is clearly trying to prepare for a war but what war is he getting ready for? here is my personal theory. Golbez plans on doing a rejoining. a rejoining with the first in particular. This would be a way for us to see a rejoining with our eyes and know what they mean. The reason for the first is that by joining the thirteenth with the first, the conditions would be met for a clash between darkness and light. between Passivity and activity. However Golbez is unaware that the first's sineaters/lightwardens had been dealt with already so he is just going to be doing a fullscale invasion without knowing that. By seeing a rejoining, we may actually develop an idea on how the pathway to worlds may be formed. thus allowing for future expansions to go further with the idea while also keeping the source the source.

Personally, I still have my doubts about HER being an Azem's fragment, we don't have enough informations yet. My bet is that either Golbez or Zero is the fragment coming from the 13th Shard. The "unusual" nature of Zero before the complete fall of the 13th doesn't match the " normal and random background" that either us or Adbert carried before becoming a Warrior of Light. Zero was born half-human and half-void-being, all of her life was about learning and using her powers as a Memoria like how Estinien aimed to be a dragoon young. Right now she is closer to an Estinien ( funny because they are both maiming jobs ) rather than a WoL imho. Golbez on the other hand is starting to look a bit more like a corrupted version of the WoL with a hint of Gaius before the events of the praetorium. The guy is a ruthless commander-like entity that is willing to reward loyalty as long as you brought satisfactory results. I'm not gonna lie, the 4 Fiends is starting to feel like the 4 douchebags under Gaius's command back in ARR.

I have a theory about what is going to happen for the next expansion. I remember hearing Yoshi-P (At least I think it was him, could have been someone else on the development team) saying that there will be a massive, world-shaking event that leads into the next great adventure starting with the next expansion. I think that the Ascians had a reason why they didn't reform the Thirteenth with the source. I think there is something there that they needed to destroy, or keep sealed away that having either the Thirteenth still around or having it reform would have been... very bad for everyone. I think there was something there that scared them, and we are working towards bringing it back unknowingly by trying to restore the Thirteenth.

That’s another great point about the echo. There has to be a reason it didn’t trigger there.

@@StoutHelm As irritating as that is/was- 😑 Just cause we were taught how doesn't mean we would be good at it... As Venat said, the two ways of triggering an Echo are: 1. The moment your target is recalling a memory- (Barbariccia is in a crystal, and not actively remembering something. 🙄) 2. Piecing together an event from ripples left in the aether. (The void is well....'void' of aether, and hence, there are no ripples to read. 😡) It didn't stop my jimmies from being rustled, but those are probably the reasons.

@@HintedImage 2. The void isn't void of aether, all the aether is just locked to Astral. Which tbh should make us grateful it didn't trigger, as it would result in a very distorted, painful and jumbled memory. I mean the one from Scarmiglione was kinda like that compared to the usual.

@@Tamamo-no-Bae No, the aspect of the 13th is leaned heavily towards Astral, but there is no ambient aether within the realm or at large, save for the few denziens still alive. Scarmiglione's memory was- well, his memory. More specifically his rememberance of an aether similar to Varshan's he feasted on before. For Barbariccia- if we were supposedly looking for something specific, say Azdaja's location- the Echo wouldn't trigger, because Barbariccia doesn't know where she is, only that Golbez has her.

On the first it was locked in an umbral state but was still there, what we did in the Empty was to essentially "Reboot" the aether of the First. The Aether of the 13th is likewise still somewhere, and I suspect locked in an Astral state and it is the essence of the darkness permeating the realm.

So im guessing the Cyella story quest is the secret one locked behind the class storylines for ShB that unlocks when you finish all of them, as Preach kinda talked about today?? Well I dont plan on lvling a healer or tank anytime soon, or ever, so ill never get to see that story. I still think Zeros mother turned into Golbez and is the 13th's shard of Azem, a corrupted version of ourselves but just as powerful but im also hoping its Unukalhai is the shard and Elitibus saved him from becoming corrupted. Why...who knows🤷‍♂🤷‍♂...its weird that the Ascians are somehow saving people of the 13th yet they are (were) actively trying to destroy the shards to reform the old star and Zodiark; Maybe Elitibus could see the Azem shards in the sundered worlds like Emmet did only sooner and more prevalent so his game was to remerge the Azem shard thus bringing Unukalhai to the source so we would eventually merge. Maybe the Acians need us to fix the 13th so they can break it properly and merge it with the source the right way... I guess only Yoshi-P has the answers 💯💯.

When people die on the 13th they are reborn again and don't return to the aether sea as Zero explains. So if Ardbert did kill Cylva would she of returned to the 13th?

If their story follows the lore of FFIV, Zero is actually named Cecil and is the sibling of Golbez. Zero will first transform after he/she has absorbed the aether from Rubicante and Cagnazzo. While Golbez being mind controlled by an evil necromancer.

The thing that sticks out to me is Zero looks similar to Edward and in FF4 Edward does have significance to troia. Also there is a paladin statue in Zero's domain which I assume would be cecil's counterpart. My own theory is the Golbez that we see is actually Cecil.

Is it just a coincidence that the Maddened Memoriate and Golbez both have asymmetrical horns on their headpieces? You speculate that if the Maddened Memoriate was significant then he would have been named, but if we already know him by another name then it stands to reason that he'd be referred to in dialogue by his description.

Cylva could, she tells us she was a memoriate but lost her powers when she was dropped in the First. Unclear about Unukalhai, he doesn't mention it.

I played FF2/4 when it first came out in America. It took everything I'd loved about the original FF and dialed it up, adding in an amazing storyline. Seeing Golbez and the Four Fiends had me giggling maniacally. Still wish I could have beaten the First Fiend by throwing Holy Water and using CURE on him, but hey, he's a bit tougher now. At least when I fought the Second Fiend of Wind, it looked like my DRG was the last to hit her and "stopped her spin" which made me absurdly happy. Could Zero be the Cecil analog? I'd love that, yes. But let me throw this out -- Zero is Cecil and Rosa's CHILD. After all, Rosa was the WHM, she would in theory be a good choice for a Memoria.

GarlandTools and Gamerscape. The unfortunate thing about voiced cutscenes is those lines aren’t datamined in the same way dialogue with only text is, so community members work to publish those translations. The specific lines I talked about here were shared with me by Anonymoose from Garland Tools.

My gut says this is a red herring, but FFIV is a major influence on this entire sequence. The red herring is the fact that Zero is named after the villain in FFIV. I don't think she's a villain, but there's definitely more to her.

If ever there was a world to be saved or crime to be solved, Hildibrand gentleman of light, agent of enquiry, inspector extraordinaire together with his trusty sidekick Nashu would surely be there to crack the case and save the day once more. 12:07 hmm tbh i belive Golbez is a shard of the Azem. I did the role quests in shadowbringers but I didn't know unukalhi (sorry for butchering his name) was in the first and has a quest there how do I start it???

You can start the chain once you finish Heavensward. You have to do the warring triad quest trials.

the Japanese translation feels a bit off, it's probably more of 'be gone while cursing the fate of being struck down by the one who receives your own blessing' if I'm not mistaken

The Japanese translations are more direct, this is something they’ve talked about in live letters. The German script also sounds really similar. I’ll be very surprised if it’s a misdirection.

I believe Golbez might be the father of Zero and he also might our shard which why i think zeno wanted to use her. Lahabread is still trapped in Ascalon. I predict Zero will become the villain and we'll need to buddy up with Lahadad to learn how to seal voidsent essences into crystal. Since we see him do that in Pandemonium. That's the whole point of the raid series.

No he's not. Thordan sucked Lahabrea's Ascian-aether-self into the Dragon Eye, destroying Lahabrea like Meonbryda helped you kill the Ascian who kidnapped Minfilla. Thordan then used Lahabrea's aether to ascend to the Primal King Thordan, who you then kill.

I hope Zero doesn’t have anything to do with Zeromus. I never liked Zemus as a villain and thought it was lame even when I was 11 years old. Introducing another villain after pursuing a different antagonist is such a cliche way to subvert expectations. Golbez is just a victim and you’re brother being controlled by some asshat on the moon (FF4) . I feel the same way about all the conflicts with the Ascians being completely watered down by the introduction of Meteion in the 11th hour. Just my opinion.
