I also have both an offset and a pellet smoker. And yes i use pellet tubes on my pellet smoker. The smoke tubes are a game changer for pellet smokers and it doesnt matter which pellet smoker you have. I love using my pellet smoker because it is extremely convenient. Set it and forget it. However i do enjoy my offset smoker. Its the purist in me. I am a bbq snob and i will not apologize for it. . I enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing.

I feel 195 gives more tender flat and prime rib texture and taste overall 203 gives that melt mouth feel from point but more dryer in flat sometimes So out of these 2 temps, I feel there is a difference…the beefiness, mouthfeel,melt,tenderness,too mushy or getting bland. I can be wrong and I’m still learning and dialing down my briskets I have 1050 Masterbuilt and 250 gallon offset and get good results from both. I like using my offset because I can fit more briskets …the day they make 1000 gallon pellet smoker would be something wouldn’t it 😅 or you can get a rotisserie style smoker which you can kinda set it and forget it but also still takes wood splits 🤔forgot to mention there very expensive lol anyways….. In the end of the day, as long as it tastes good! Thanks for sharing 🫡

Yeah generally if I’m doing an overnight hold I’ll pull at 195. 250 gallon is pretty big for home. Can cook a lot on that 😊🍻

I wouldn’t have believed it either, but Yoders are different than many of the other pellet grills and I’ve spent 4 years working on my Yoder brisket. I tried it first and was shocked at how close it was. Wouldn’t have believed it, but the results don’t lie. 🍻

Have you ever tried using wood chips in your smoke tube instead of pellets? Curious if that would maybe improve the smoke flavor of the pellet grill more than the pellets.
@rsg9190Ай бұрын
South Texas here, I love to start a fire. I love to barbecue I own all kinds of smokers, offset, direct heat, you name it, I bought a searwood xl 600 about three months ago and I’ve already burned 300 pounds worth of pellets. I absolutely love this thing you’re able to achieve good smoke rings,good bark etc,etc. I haven’t used any of my other cookers since I bought this thing😂

Partly feel, but it raised a little quicker than I expected. I expected to pull it at 200 based on feel. I let it rest longer before put in the oven to offset it. Glad you enjoy the channel! 🍻

Interesting video for sure. I have a Weber summit grill (after owning an offset for years) and I have to say the smoke flavor is nowhere near the offset but isn’t bad either. I will definitely have to try a smoke tube in it for additional smoke. I will say, in my own experience, I’m surprised how many people like a lighter smoke vs heavier smoke. I’m a little biased because I lived in Texas half my life and was subject to great BBQ all the time (from offsets), but I live in another state now and I think tastes change depending on where you live. Thanks for your time on the video.
@RumandCook28 күн бұрын
Smoke tube will be helpful for sure. Different places also have different varieties of woods available so that will play into it as well. I have some family that prefers light smoke. I def like a heavier smoke though. 🍻

Great video, I agree with others that a silent vote would be interesting. That being said, I'm not surprised with the results, smoke tube makes a world of difference and pellet smoker is more consistent.

Why no water pan on this cook for the yoder? Also did you find the 2 hrs at 200, 225, and 250 better than 2 hrs at 180 and 200 shown in your previous linked video?
@RumandCook13 күн бұрын
I don’t really see the need for it. I haven’t done a comparison, but I haven’t noticed a huge difference. Both methods work about the same if you use 2 smoke tubes. Starting at 200 cooks a little quicker. 🍻
@BloodstrykeАй бұрын
Next time, if you do another offset vs pellet grill, you should take one large brisket and cut it in half length wise so you are comparing the same cut of meat rather than 2 different cows that could affect the results.

It’s worth a try, but I don’t think it would affect it that much. They were both high end Prime briskets. 🍻

Awesome. I have been doing all my briskets on my traegar. The reason is its easier for me and not everyone enjoys the heavy smoke as i live in South Dakota. Bear mountain pellets are amazing. Smoking pecan pellets are a game changer but too spendy for my budget unless it is for something special. On my reverse flow i use red oak and supplement with a chunk of hickory every hour. I like the flavor but again most are not used to the heavy flavor around here. 200 to smoke and 275 with it hits the stall. Wrap and warm rest for at least 4 hours
@RumandCook29 күн бұрын
A pellet grill is certainly less work, that’s for sure. I haven’t priced out the pecan pellets, but that’s good to know. Thanks. 🍻

Loved your offset vs. pellet grill comparison. It has given me promise for my Weber Searwood XL since I ditched my Green Egg. If I could make a quick suggestion from a marketing executive of a Fortune 500 company. When doing a blind comparison, have the participants "write down" their selection. Don't show anybody. Verbal choices heard by a group, always, always, always influences their decision to some degree. Psychology nobody wants to be the outsider. Also, use a sticky note showing which is A and B. Thanks for doing the work to show us a comparison.

Is this a fair test between a pellet grill and an offset if you are using a smoke tube? The fair test would be a pellet grill without the assist of a smoke tube vs an offset smoker. Would the pellet grill win without the smoke tube?

I don’t see why it’s not fair. My goal was to put my best pellet grill brisket against my best offset brisket. I closed down the damper on my offset to help hold more smoke as well. 🍻
