As a European working in AI I’m disappointed about how so much European talent and technology is lost to overseas. Example: the godfathers of deep learning are Yann Lecun, Yoshua Bengio and Geoff Hinton, all US/Canada citizens. However they’re all European (two french one brit). There is not a single big company of the size of google, microsoft, apple, amazon. For the promising AI startups (including the one I work for) the CEO usually looks for being bought by an overseas giant, again losing the technology (to US in most cases). Something is going wrong in Europe and all the EU seems capable of is preventing any company from actually getting big

America has the Google, Microsoft, Apple and the Amazons of the world, because American VCs inentionally loose billions on a ton start-ups that fails to create the one that makes them 100 or 1,000x. Accordingly, Silicon Valley has spawned a 50 year industry of tech innovation like no where else in the world where cool ideas get big money just to go play and most likely fail.

The biggest benefit of a true general AI - it doesn't care about countries, borders and humanity in general 😅
@joeblack4436
@joeblack4436 Жыл бұрын
There's centuries of war possible in that alone. And possibly humanity destroying itself. So I fail to see the benefit. There's always good and bad uses with any tech. You can actually train an AI to care about countries, borders and humanity. The problem is that those to whom borders are an inconvenience, are obviously predisposed by default to spreading the bad across borders. As long as they themselves benefit. Some don't care about the cost to others. Some enjoy the cost to others.

Few people are responsible enough to point out the journalist was trying to manipulate ChatGpT, which resulted in the AI producing bizarre answers. The future looks bright for everyone with an honest intellectual curiosity. AI will hopefully hasten the demise of manipulative people in society, as they twist their understanding of truth up through their own devious nature.

I am glad someone sees the hypocrisy in the article. Biased AI or biased journalists. Probably more of the latter. While the AI is trained on (biased) data on the internet, it actually understands the data and can therefore attempt to "de-bias" it, contrary to journalists who come with their personal biases and selective filters and an insatiable thirst for sensational content, no matter if it reflects reality accurately or not. Journalists contribute to the problem of "bias" on the internet. The world they describe has very little to do with the real world as researchers like Hans Rosling or Steven Pinker demonstrated.

I'll believe a country is making progress for good when I get to the traffic lights and don't see a red light waiting for no one, and similar such things for societal benefit. At the moment only things for companies profit or government processes that citizens do not benefit from appear to be. Good that the military stuff isn't there yet. Still many cases of AI controlled machines with access to deadly weapons not being able to tell friend from foe. This would be quite scary if this were to change, and also be done cheaply with manufacturing with large amounts of AI or common resources as components.

The problem of intelligence is that it is used for primitive goals, like it always have been. Imagine something like the Russia-Ukraine war, but in 30 years from now. Would we expect Russia to use AI responsibly, not throwing away the AI safety methods to gain an edge over their enemy? Would we expect China to use AI responsibly, not using it to cause havoc on other countries' stability?

@@Djungelurban Yeah it's a good point. But like nuclear weapons even the CCP has some level of restraint. I really don't like the idea of a brutal dictator getting AI first though. Considering what they are willing to do to their own people. Let alone the west, and other nations. But there is also voices out there claiming the CCP wont overtake the west in this research as well. I just worry the whole "CCP will win the AI race if we pause research" narrative is one from our own companies, for the same reason I mentioned above. Competition, and to push development as fast as possible in the name of money.

Historically we have seen that it's Silicon Valley and many other regions like the European and Japanese companies which create and pioneer the fundamentals of new technologies. When it comes to China, we have seen that they sometimes have been very quick and easy to adopt and apply these new technologies which leads to them being refined. Mostly this is due to the lack of strong preexisting institutions that can resist the introduction of these technologies. A prime example would be mobile payments. Americans already had a large ATM network, there was no need for mobile payment systems. Another example would be high speed internet. There was already DSL and Cable networks. Those consolidated into uncompetitive monopolies that hindered the rollout of fibre for a long time.

The dragon is out of the cage - that is what I said just few weeks ago. As mentioned here, money moves to fit the needs. Since the political and military implication is so huge - all dangerous yet unpredictable thing can and actually I am afraid must be happening behind the scene. Very disturbing, but we cannot be blind about what to can happen further and how to prepare - even at individual levels. What I am doing is, I keep my eyes and ears open to find what is happening but not over-reacting such that I can make good judgment. (Note, what is actually "interesting" is to know ourselves is about AI and that is what we need to do individually - as well.)

Gaming should not be unregulated, dangerous AI could come from anywhere and as a Machine Learning Engineering and ex-gamer I believe that games could be one of the most likely areas to produce general AI since the types of behaviours such AI would trained for would be to act like humans in human simulations with hundreds of millions of players to use as data globally, this sector could even be one of the most dangerous. All the video game companies already have access to the kind of computing power required to make the more powerful AI anways.

Corporations are definetly keeping many of their AIs systems closed source, but for the most part they don't have any incentive to keep their exitence a secret. Don't let those we taught to wash teach us about culture. Do not let those who gave birth to fascism, the Inquisition and other atrocities teach us philanthropy. Don't let those who crown pederasts teach us about human values. We are Russia, we are not on the same path with the EU and the USA.

16:05 buhaha... thats ridiculus... to say that europe doesnt needs to catch up because no one defined the goal... If the goal is definend, the game is over for the industry that didnt "defined". Europe has to push in the service business if europe doesnt want to fall further behind. The US Government has to get back the power the us lost to silicon valley. The US is a Oligarchy of defense industry and tech

as usual, the ethicist is the most incompetent person in the room. she had no point at all, you wouldn't even need AI to replace her job, just 1 list of bad things, and other list for underrepresented people, and a random join on them both. feign sadness, repeat.

Is the question in the title of this video even relevant considering all AI’s are super intelligent and therefor just like with search engines there is no winner?

China is too big to be isolated. China already has a lot of influence, infact, it's influence is growing rapidly still.

What? China does NOT persecute Uighurs. Uighurs have been part of China since ancient time. This is very different from the Chyistian West. China also lacks religion to repel Uighurs. In the final vote in UN, majority countries voted AGAINST the West accusation, and the Western claim of Chinese abuse of Uighurs failed in the UN. Give it a rest. You can repeat 1000 times, but you are just repeating a lie.

I communicate with Chinese in China. Genocide is an exaggeration. Persecution is real. The capital city of XinJiang is under so much surveillance that many Han people try to escape.

How CCP has mistreated Tibetans and Uighurs in history is a myth even in China, since it’s never reported.
