Jealousy, in my opinion, was at the root of many of the accusations.

She was ACCUSED of being a witch. Men tended you accuse women of witchcraft back then for all sorts of reasons. Most, if not all of them, had nothing to do with witchcraft. Such as, If a man was sexually attracted to a woman who wasn't his wife then she must have cast a spell on him.

The Salem witch trials had less of that specific brand of witchcraft accusation. It was way more like the neighbors already had beef with you, wanted your land, or got caught up in the whole moral panic.

And 6 degrees from him we're related to Mark Hamill. That's just on my moms side on my dads side My great Uncle is Babe Ruth. Also on my dad's side we're related to the physics who made up Clorox & he sold it so we have no royalties from that. Also were related to a maid who survived Titanic. There was a maid that survived the Titanic, the Britannic and the Olympic wrecks. Her name was Violet Jessop. Is that the one you’re related to? Depending on how you look at it, she was either very lucky or absolutely cursed. I adored Billie Burke!

Oh, Burroughs' death was absolutely tragic and horrifying, if I remember correctly. He recited the Lord's Prayer successfully, but Cotton Mather still had him hung, even while everyone was begging for Reverend Burroughs to be granted mercy.

Was this about the witch trials in Connecticut or Massachusetts? Connecticut had the first witch trials in America.
@justso4509 Жыл бұрын
This particular trial was in Connecticut, same year as the infamous Salem witch trials in Massachusetts. The 1692 Connecticut trials resulted in only 1 conviction (and she was later pardoned) versus the 30 (I think) convictions in Salem, with 19 of those being executed.
