It never ceases to amaze me that the very poorest of society continued to have more and more children! That just makes their situation worse

Lack of birth control and people had lots of children to allow for high infant mortality.

Hahah this is how you know somebody has been brought up eating Bourbon biscuits with mummy and daddy buying them 5000 presents. Try just having a wife with hardly any money and your only hope for the future of your family is to raise a family with a fair amount of kids who can each bring an income to the house and soon you have 20 members in the family, loads of money coming in and the previous idiots who lived in the town have scurried off
