So my interpretation of this song is that the lie she’s told is not only a lie she (sort of) told herself AND her lover, which is that she loves him. I think the metaphor of the tree is that he basically took her heart without her realizing and without her giving it away (my heart where i couldn’t reach, it was only to tease), (happy to have me? i never gave me away) and that she realizes she never actually felt that way/doesn’t anymore (that was so long ago, the tree has grown.) I think her lover being buried underground is a metaphor for the fact that she was actually in love with someone else and keeping it a secret, ‘buried’ inside her (no one knows my lover is buried underground), but instead went into a relationship with with another man (it was only to tease) And as a result, she slept with a bunch of men as a coping mechanism for her guilt (as the businessmen saw my bones [similar to bag of bones which is also IMO about sex as a coping mechanism] and they remembered that night i was that man you knew.) I think the title ‘Circle’ maybe means, that while chasing after her lover (crush? the person that she actually loves,) she accidentally fell into a relationship with a different man, and now is cheating on the man (kinda making a circle in her behaviors.)

I love this interpretation sm. I kinda took for a purity thing. She slept with a guy he knew before entering a relationship with him. She had also slept with other men as well, but he was the only one she genuinely fell inlove with. And as she got back home she faces of other men she has been with, which made her feel great shame. But whiles in a relationship with her new guy, she told him she had not given herself away yet, she was still "pure" even tho she had previously been with a one of his friends. She feels bad for lying to him but is scared that he might view her as less than for having a sexual history. Especially since her "purity" is something he likes most about her. And because of this their relationship lack emotional intimacy. She wants to be deeply connected to him and give him her heart but can't because of the lie she told him. So figured that the tree is the space growing between him and her heart. No matter how far he climbs the tree he will never reach the branch that has her heart because, there's still a lie that keeps them apart. Causing the tree to grow more and more. And underneath the tree is her "lover", who's body is nourishing the the tree, causing it to grow more and more. But that's just what came to my mind. I honestly think yours makes more sense tho.

My family doesn’t talk about emotions and desperately tries to hide the fact that they are miserable. I loved my cousin and he killed himself. Listening to this song reminds me of the isolating pain of truly trying to help someone and being met with emotionally immaturity and coldness from the authority figures in your life. And changing to be a cold person like everyone else and hating it. this is just an interpretation combined with personal emotions and stuff lol this song feels to me like sexual regret, ive always felt the themes of an inaccurate ideation of her lover leading to regret combine with the regret of having given herself to a man she doesn’t really know. i personally gravitate toward this song when i feel i’ve done the same, but i don’t recognize myself, so how can i give myself away if my identity is a mystery to me? i can only cope with my crisis in identity through sexualizing myself in an attempt to become the hypersexual persona i portray, but in the end do i feel empty because the other person was dissatisfactory, or because it can never fill the void in my soul i have yet to identify?
