Sonic Advance 2 was my first Sonic game. When I finally got to this boss, I couldn't beat it. It's hand slapping was too fast for me. But when it one-hit killed me, I was super confused. I thought rings always protected you, so why did they fail this time.? I thought it happened if it does a certain movement, which I couldn't predict because the hand was off of the screen most of the time. I think that this boss had strange design choices in general.

Late, but I tested it with cheat codes and the game seems programmed to instantly kill the player if they make contact with the hand during mercy invincibility, even if they manage to grab a ring during between losing those rings and touching the hand during that mercy invincibility. So yeah, fak this boss, especially considering the previous boss could be taken out in less than 7 seconds.

Ah, Sonic Advance... I didn't hate the series, especially 2. But I understand where you're coming from. I never got past the sky stage with anyone but Cream. Picking Cream is like picking the Easy Mode in any other game: You can fly, and you have a powerful attack dog in Cheese. Seriously, that ranged attack is hilarious on bosses because they simply were not designed for ranged attacks.

For me it was getting 35 emeralds by getting 7 special rings in a single run. I got a hand cramp from holding up during the third special stage and that's the first time since Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (GG) I rage quit from a handheld game.

whoisthisgit I got passed him once or twice, and then run up against another wall when the first hang-glider bit appeared. I couldn't figure the damn thing out (not like the GG has a lot of buttons) in the 2 or 3 attempts I ever got at it. I have the cartridge still, but no GG or I would try to not fail so hard. I would have preferred the lava pit Robotnik saves you from, at least it didn't come with a hope of survival.

I honestly believe Advance 2 is the worst offender in the "all about speed" category. People who hate Rush seem to forget about the platforming, fun stage gimmicks like the 3D hang glider, and rooms where you must defeat all the enemies. Advance 2 was literally moving forward 24/7. It's my least favorite 2D Sonic, yes, I even think Sonic 4 episode 1 is better. At least it has some platforming.

That Egg Saucer's hand really had a bad design. Not only the boss's design is extremely lame, but also being one of the most frustrating boss ever which is why the Sonic Advance games doesn't hold the candle of Sonic 3 & Knuckles(Considered by many to be the best Sonic game ever).

(***** New candidate for worst bosses...) Oh, good god no... I remember this boss frustrating me to death as a kid; though that's mainly because I was dumb enough to continue rushing it after losing several times and didn't pay any attention to its attacks. I did eventually work through it by memorizing the hand's exact attack pattern. Besides, there's one I find to be easily harder and worse: the Egg-go-Round, the boss of Techno Base (immediately following Sky Canyon). The concept seems fairly good on paper, but MAN ALIVE do I hate that thing. The pod rides on a rail out of your reach and has side protection like the Egg Saucer, so to reach it you have to use these four platforms that rotate clockwise around it, but both the platforms and the pod can easily screw you over if you aren't prepared (which most of the time, you won't be). The silver platforms, when lit up, will start to spin and cause you to pass through them. Mildly annoying and time-wasting, but not too bad on its own. The gold ones are much worse; when lit they extend spikes, brutally punishing you if you get caught on them (which is often more due to luck since you likely will not see it coming). Which move Eggman uses and when he uses it is completely random, so there's a good chance you'll miss your chance and be able to do crap all about it because it's by luck alone. Oh, and due to the pod firing a volley of shots every few seconds at regular intervals, it's difficult to build enough momentum from dodging or getting nailed by them to get an opening and hit him, especially if you're playing as Sonic. ...Oh, and did I mention, after he's half-finished it gets WORSE. The platforms start rotating the other way, making you waste even more time to reach a platform that may or may not even give you the opening you need, the platforms themselves start launching their bullcrap moves faster, and the pod's pauses between firing volleys gets shorter. And of course, if you lose and get a game over (which you will likely do A LOT if you're playing as Sonic), you have to start Techno Base again from Act 1. That stage isn't easy either; it's loaded with traps at every corner unless you take a particular route, and the enemies are really freaking annoying (the background and graphic design is kind of cool though). I've wasted more time as Sonic on this boss than any other boss or stage in the entire series. ...Not to mention, in the XX stage you go through a lazily-designed boss rush consisting of all of the bosses you beat in their half-finished states. And the sixth one is--you guessed it--the Egg-Go-Round. If you're playing as Sonic and don't build up the momentum you need to hit the pod (which is hard to do between getting shot at and the bullcrap platforms' gimmicks), it's not too much of a stretch to say you'll likely die, and even after you beat it you've likely wasted a lot of time in preparation for the remaining beaten boss, Egg Frog, and the Super Eggrobo Z (who the hell named it that??). So what happens if you waste your last life on this boss or (if you're unlucky enough) a time out? ...You have to go through EVERY SINGLE HALF-BEATEN BOSS BEFORE IT AGAIN BEFORE YOU FIGHT THE EGG-GO-ROUND, including the Egg Saucer. FUCK. THAT. BOSS.

Not sure if that was the purpose or a sprite mask glitch. We know that in Sonic you can die instantly by falling down the pit or being squashed while having rings. So maybe the robotic arm's corner part is acting like a solid object for a second when it's slapping. So it could be that it's giving you the same effect as being squished by something from the top.

Personally, I'm ok with the SA2 Bosses. There is a bad design choice of the bosses that I need to mention that you didn't seem to know. Every boss stage in the game is on a loop, meaning: You have a finite number of rings. And if you are having trouble on a boss, you're good as dead. By the way, you fight all the bosses again in the final stage, albeit with less health.

Through using cheat codes, I have found that the hand instakills even if you have a way to not lose rings when it hits you. The wild swing it does also kills you if it touches you during your mercy invincibility, WITH THAT EVER SO PLEASANT NOT AT ZERO RING COUNTER. AND THIS IS COMING AFTER THE AERO EGG, WHICH, THROUGH CLEVER USE OF SONIC'S AIR DASH, CAN BE TAKEN OUT IN SINGLE DIGIT TIME.

The 2 sonic bosses I hated the most is the aforementioned Antlion boss in Sonic 2 and the Egg Dragoon in Sonic Generations (at least the PC version, as apparently they glitched the hit detection on the Walls you climb on that boss to hit it)

Actually, the instant death attack isn’t random. It’s telegraphed! Whenever the hand does an *open-hand slap,* that’s the insta-kill. It’ll kill you if you touch the hand at any point during the attack, even if it’s just sitting there with it’s hand open. This is because getting hit by the center of the hand _crushes_ you. Getting crushed means instant death. Just hitting the fingers is fine. I never had a problem with Egg Saucer, because beating one/two-trick bosses with a dumb gimmick are my specialty. Fun Fact: This is apparently an extremely expensive robot, which is why the following two suck. In effectiveness, not gameplay enjoyment. They suck at _that_ for different reasons.
