By far, the most tragic part about Gamma story is that he’s never remembered for his actions. His actions, and his sacrifices, don’t make a major impact on the rest of the world, nor is he ever remembered. It’s not even clear whether or not his conscience even lives through the Flicky. For all intents and purposes, Gamma straight up died doing the right thing, and nobody, not even Dr. Eggman, ever knew it.
@generalvic82504 жыл бұрын
I don't feel that's in any way tragic, martyrs are never remembered or acknowledged, but they're always the greatest, and he never sought fame or glory.

The only time Gamma was recognized after his 'death' was in Sonic X, when Amy found Gamma's destroyed body after he had fought E-101 Beta MK2. But it's not like it matters since Sonic X's story isn't canon. But despite Gamma's previous defection, Eggman created Badniks in Gamma's likeliness in Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Battle, and Gamma's successor, E-123 Omega.
@Danariya14 жыл бұрын
Yeah, nobody even knows he died, besides the 2 birds and they wouldn't even be able to tell anyone. And even if they could, nobody would really care that much, he didn't leave an impact on their lives, everyone saw him like 1 time (besides Amy)
@yeetuspogimus20234 жыл бұрын
@Cheese Wizard Think about it this way, Gamma IS the flicky but imprisoned and encased in metal and wires; and the flicky's consciousness has been overridden and its previous memories no matter how vague, were wiped by Eggman in order for it to serve his every command; yet the innocence of its soul still existed within the flicky and Amy gradually reminded it of its family and life prior to capture through their brief interactions without even knowing it. Thus, eventually the flicky regained its ability to think for itself, even if those thoughts had to be manually converted into digital images for the robot shell to process. The flicky realized its kin had all met with the same fate and had simply not had the will to oppose Dr. Eggman's orders; so it set out to free them from their mobile robotic imprisonment. Beta was programmed to carry out its orders to the bitter end, presumably as Dr. Eggman intended by design. That programming decision was what indirectly freed Gamma's flicky; because it's not inconceivable that Eggman would intentionally omit a self-destruct mechanism from Gamma's and the other robots' design. Gamma never really "died", because Gamma was never truly alive, rather, it was the flicky imprisoned within that made all of those decisions. Although, the game creators hammed up the moment to make a point; that family is important and worth fighting for. When you break it all down logically though, it does kind of spoil the sentimental magic a little bit, but I hope this explanation made sense to you. :)

One other pretty sad take on Gamma's ending I remember was in _Sonic X,_ where Amy actually tries to follow him to get help with finding her bird's family; but is too late to intervene. She actually sees Gamma and Beta MK2 kill each other (thus releasing her bird's parents) and is genuinely broken up about it; especially since the last thing Gamma does after the two land their respective killing shots is lay his hand on one of Beta's arms as he collapses, almost like they're trying to reassure each other as it happens. To paraphrase: *Amy:* _(tearful)_ You managed to free them... thank you. We're friends from now on. Now you and your brother can live together again...

I remember seeing the Sonic X cartoon/anime do a similar story with Gamma, from what I remember my impression was that Gamma is himself but upon seeing the other birds the bird inside became excited/happy or something similar which caused Gamma to "feel" an emotion deep inside him. So Gamma is "feeling" an emotion not of his own but given to him. So I like to think of Gamma and the bird as their own entity but the bird was like his foreign subconscious, at least that's the theory I always thought of. You know that saying where emotions can drive people to do things they normally wouldn't do? I think the bird is that "emotion" within Gamma. Upon feeling it, he may have not understood it but he felt the birds strong urge to help...save. In the cartoon it was made more clear Gamma and the bird was separate when Gamma got reset but Amy was able to help turn him back to his old self who then proceeded to free the bird inside him and no Gamma did not survive. One last thing I believe the Birds feelings to save his friends touched Gamma, "I want to free my friends from Eggman", for the bird if the E-seires are destroyed then the birds would be free. For Gamma if they are destroyed then they would be free from Eggman's control. I like to go back to the scene where the other E robots are eliminated when they failed and Gamma thought back to that before he turned coat, indicating he didn't like Eggman's cruel treatment of them. Two different goals but in the end the "emotion" drove both of them to their goal. But you could also say Gamma experienced feelings and Visions from "his past life." In reality it was the bird's memories. In the end I still found it kinda unsettling, Gamma may have just followed feelings not entirely of his own.
@megspitzer94066 ай бұрын
The shocking thing about Gamma in Sonic X, though, is that he's not voiced by John St. John, but he's instead voiced by Andrew Rannells, who also played Decoe, one of Eggman's robot lackeys in Sonic X

I love concept of robots as characters because they have a very different perspective on life than us humans. The way I tend interpret them in one of my stories called cells, is as characters driven by goals and purpose often times even on a higher level than even humans. in a world almost entirely devoid of humans and with no need for sustenance or fears of death from age, they feel compelled to find purpose and goals. Without one they feel empty and incomplete.

Oh no I don't blame you. The music design in Gamma's story was so good at filling the emotional side of his story, ESPECIALLY the sad undertone his entire motif had. The way they used it in the end was the biggest part of it all, just the sad, slow finishing notes of his motif trailing off as the song of his life story comes to an end. This along with [S] Remember have been the only two things in ANY fandom to make me tear up. Sonic Adventure... I have a love-hate for this game. On one hand, it introduced Chaos and the Adventure formula. On the other hand, the story was a bit barebones and most of the characters just...rubbed me off the wrong way (Big and Amy especially). Oh, and the Tails story is my favorite in the game, mainly because Tails finally gets out of Sonic’s shadow. If only Tails’s character in the Adventure games was brought back for his Modern incarnation...
@zeospark97154 жыл бұрын

@georgecortes34164 жыл бұрын
For me, the biggest issue I had with the story was how disorganized and confused was. Individually, the stories were fine and be summed up as: Sonic vs Eggman, Tails gains confidence, Knuckles does his job, Amy learns how to stick up for herself, Gamma rescues his family by destroying them (all in a day’s work!), and Big tries playing Cat & Mouse with a frog. But collectively, it’s a mess. And when you said the characters “weren’t themselves”, that’s probably because this is the first time an official Sonic game uses voice-acted cutscenes, so the writers and actors probably weren’t sure how the characters should act. They’d fix characterizations a bit by Adventure 2, but still has problems. Also, I’m not a fan of how Tikal’s story just interrupts other characters’ scenarios when they could’ve, oh I don’t know, be after-credits cutscenes! And it’s even more baffling when Gamma & Big are shown this, who, in the collective story, have nothing significant to contribute! That’s pretty much it in terms of story issues since gameplay-wise, I enjoy this game enough, 2/3 of the gameplay styles are fun for me! Those being: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Gamma. Big was unnecessary and Amy is the worst for me.
@VonFirflirch4 жыл бұрын
@@georgecortes3416 I know you shouldn't need a workaround, but, have you ever tried to keep jumping as Amy? It seems she builds up speed faster in the air, which lets you reach top speed more easily, allowing you to spam that Hammer Vault move and actually have fun. At least, it works for me x) Damn, I wish they'd bring back this gameplay style for the main trio, they're a blast in this game.
@georgecortes34164 жыл бұрын
@@VonFirflirch Yeah, I know, that’s how I did Amy’s Rank-A Missions after all. If I could change Amy’s gameplay, I’d make it so she plays like a fusion between her Adventure & Adventure 2 counterparts and with some differences by making her slightly slower than Sonic in terms of running speed, replace the Homing Attack with a Double Jump (NOT THE SONIC 2006 DOUBLE JUMP TO CLARIFY), her Piko Piko Hammer can be swung around while moving and won’t break any flow, and she would be a somewhat more mundane version of Sonic in being a bit slower and no Homing Attack or Spin Dash, but can do quick mobile hammer swings to compensate. But yeah, I’d want a remake of this game someday, rework the script, give Tikal better implementation, fix the gameplay, good & bad, make things like Big’s story and the Chao Garden completely optional and not required for 100% completion (basically, no Emblems to collect from these), and differ the “repeat” boss fights (Chaos 4 especially) to decrease the monotony. Though if I wanna get more ambitious, maybe there can be a feature to allow every Story Mode character to go through all the different levels like a traditional Sonic stage, even if they don’t do so in Story Mode! Imagine Tails going through levels that don’t end in a minute or Knuckles using his abilities to the fullest like in Sonic 3 & Knuckles by going through full levels! Or maybe extra unlockable postgame characters, where I wrote ideas for a playable Metal Sonic (not as a skin, but his own character), Silver Sonic II, and I even brainstormed a gameplay style for Honey the Cat from Sonic the Fighters!
@VonFirflirch4 жыл бұрын
@@georgecortes3416 Amy was pretty sweet in Heroes, too, she could hover with her hammer. And actually had speed. ;) This formula really was a goldmine I feel, too bad nowadays, it's all Sonic and boost. There's a creepy bad ending that has been haunting me since I first saw it. In the third person shooter "Metal Arms: Glitch in the System" from 2003 you follow the conflict between two factions of sentient robots: the Droid rebels and the Mil empire. In the third mission, if you try to advance to the next area before clearing the previous one, you will be warned by your commander to return immediately. If you continue anyway a cutscene plays. In that scene, Mils pose over the corpses of destroyed Droids and take photos with their severed heads, while survivors are put infront of a wall and shot just off-screen while the Mils are laughing. I wasn't sure if it was even real, so I went back and checked, but yes it is real. I also noticed that the scene seems to use pre-release 3D models which adds to the uncanny creepiness. The game is pretty lighthearted otherwise only a bit vulgar, so this bad ending really sticks out. Great video as always.

I'm not entirely sure if this counts as a Creepy Bad Ending, but to be honest, I don't care at all. Gamma's story was one of the most powerful experiences with Sonic Adventure, and I am glad to see it is getting the highlight that it deserves. I miss when Sonic Team's development of their stories was so deep that it moved you, as Gamma's has done. Forever a hero, Gamma. *Blue Blurs for Life!*

If you're too emotional? Well, let's say that after the draining clusterfuck that was Corpse Party, it's nice to just have a cheesy (albeit buggy and dubbed bad though at the very least not Sonic 06 bad, lol) game to see its end, lol.

What's even sadder is that, in the Sonic X anime (more specifically, the 31st episode), Amy is the only one who witnessed the deaths of Gamma and Beta
@arielglr71774 жыл бұрын
It would have been very dark if after defeating E-101Beta, E-102Gamma does a countdown while hardly walking to take shelter due to the damage suffered, as it confirms the targets destroyed, it proceeds with the E series remaining, when it finds out it is the only one remaining, it looks at its hand, has a quick flash of the birds, proceeds to point it's gun at its head/body, no music plays, only the sound of the waves, the camera goes away from Gamma, after a brief pause a gunshot sounds, and in a fading voice we hear "Target E-102 Gamma... destroyed... "
@fevermario4 жыл бұрын
There are rumors going around that it was originally intended to end pretty exactly as you described, but they felt it would be too dark.

Gamma is also mentioned in Sonic Battle. Amy questions Omega during her story (I think) if he is Gamma but he states that he's not.

Finally someone acknowledges how good the Gamma story is. also I liked how you showed how all of Gammas victory animations because its weirdly good for how terrible the rest of the animations are

yeah, some games are kinda like that... they have poor quality in animation/gameplay/etc, but we just end up playing a lot xD. and yeah, it's kinda cool to see things from gamma's point of view. truly a hero

Some of this problems are only in Sonic Adventure Dx,like the bugs and ugly lighting,because they aren't in the original release on the Dreamcast. Though the facial expressions are bad in every version lol
@Tom-jw7ii4 жыл бұрын
@@megablooper64 They're definitely not great in either version, but I think paired with the dreamcast models the facial animations end up looking more funny and less gross, even though the animations themselves are the same.

I remember a weird story about my brother playing through SADX until Big and Gamma stories; while I did Big's for him because fishing, I told him to play Gamma's because of the story and ended up throwing a tantrum...yeah. The next day I saw him after finishing Gamma's story (the credits were playing). Looks like he had finally taken my word :)

I know the focus is on Gamma here, but Amy is wasted on Team Sonic. She should join the diplomatic corps. First she convinces a robot to change sides, then she talks Shadow into fighting in SA2. Girl missed her calling as a diplomat.

I have a recommendation for creepy bad endings. Fatal fury 1 - lose and get kicked out of the window to your death KOF 97 new face team ending - the bad guys win There’s a lot of bad endings in snk in which I recommend to check out and maybe make a video :)

Gamma is my favorite Sonic character in the games. I always liked Tails, but after Adventure and how surprisingly deep Gamma’s story got, I couldn’t help but elevate him a bit more. I’ve never been more invested in a Sonic character’s story since. And his legacy left us with Omega...who isn’t NEARLY as good or interesting

What's sad is I think even if Gamma survived he probably would end his own life to save the animal inside him anyway. Hence why when he said "Units remaining: Gamma." He was seriously thinking of ending his own life. At least that was the implication.

The old days on my sega dreamcast, I have to say that gamma's story was always weird to me, the feelings and the music for the cut scenes... just make you feel bad and sad for the robot that for some reason, just wants to save his brothers... and himself :c

Weird how I literally just replayed the whole game recently and this video is made, Gamma is probably my second favourite story in Adventure with first being sonic obviously, I never knew about the original ending being Gamma shooting himself in the head...god that’d be really dark so I’m glad that didn’t happen.
