I work in the food industry for a few decades. Many instances when the items were obviously mislabeled in customers favor (for example: a jar of honey was $19.99 and it was labeled $1.99) no customer said anything until the worker spotted the error. But when opposite happens accusations start instantly.

What i dont understand is why no one mistakenly charge less instead of always overcharging 'by mistake'

Whole foods weighs and prices their items at the store instead of at a central distribution location. And since their employees get profit sharing (more money based on sales performance) there is a built-in incentive for employees to err on the side of overcharging. They need to implement a system where profit sharing is reduced when excessive errors are found in packaging either through customer complaints or internal audits.

This happened because they don't train people on how to do their jobs. I work there. They completely gloss over taring packaging and you'll find so many employees who had no idea they we're supposed to be taring off the weight in packaging. Yes this was "unintentional" but it speaks to the gross lack of communication the company suffers from. There is no concrete guides for training in any department and this is one of them.
