Wholesome Meals For Winter Days In The North // What We Eat In The Winter // Meals From Scratch

Baked Salmon
Salmon fillets
Olive oil
Lemon slices
Juice from half a lemon
Garlic
Fresh or dried rosemary
Pepper
Salt
Drizzle olive oil over a foil lined pan, and lay the salmon on the pan skin down.
Drizzle some olive oil on top of salmon. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, crushed garlic, and rosemary.
Squeeze half of a lemon over all, and lay a few lemon slices on each fillet.
Bake at 450° for 10 to 14 minutes, approximately eight minutes for a 1/2 inch fillet. Broil for the last minute.
Swedish Tea Ring
Dough:
1 cup whole milk
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
Two packages of yeast - dissolved in 1/4 cup warm water
4 cups flour
One large egg
Filling:
3 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon
3 tablespoons melted butter
1/2 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup sliced almonds and chopped Walnuts
Glaze:
1 cup powdered sugar
1-2 teaspoons water
Vanilla
Pinch of salt.
Egg wash:
Two egg yolks
2 tablespoons cream
Heat milk to steamy, but not boiling. Stir in butter and sugar until butter is melted.
Pour into a mixing bowl. Mix in yeast mixture, egg, and salt.
Slowly add the flour until a soft dough starts to form into a ball. Turn onto floured surface
And need dough 7 to 10 minutes. Place in an oiled bowl. Cover and let rise until double in size,
About one hour.
Roll out in a rectangle on a floured surface. Brush on the butter, sprinkle on the cinnamon sugar,
the chocolate chips and nuts.
Carefully roll the dough up lengthwise, pinch seems together. Transfer to a greased baking sheet.
Form a circle with the dough. Using a scissors cut 1 inch strips all around the circle, not cutting all the way through.
Twist the pieces to the side and overlap slightly like I did in the video.
Let rise for 40 minutes. Brush with egg wash And bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes.
Let cool for a few minutes then drizzle on your glaze.
Enjoy with a fresh cup of coffee or tea!

The scenery I would never get tired of looking at and particularly with the snow simply stunning. The love that you put into your meals for your family is amazing Priscilla. The look on little Chloe’s face when the Swedish bun come from the oven was beautiful. Beautiful! I grew up Mennonite in PA and NY, but we moved to Alaska early in our marriage. Now we are grandparents! I love the warmth of your home life! I make a tea ring mostly just at Christmas. I found the recipe years ago and it’s the centerpiece of our Christmas breakfast, which now includes our grandchildren! One grandson has learned to make it. One Christmas years ago when we were missionaries living in a small remote village, I made different sizes of tea rings for every household in the village! It was fun and my oldest daughter helped deliver them. She still talks about that! Mine is a very soft dough that doesn’t need kneading and calls for a teaspoon of cardamom which gives the dough a wonderful flavor.

Hi Priscilla Try adding cinnamon, a little nutmeg, pinch of cloves or cardamom plus chopped dried fruit to the oatmeal as it cooks. Sometimes I add some unsweetened coconut too. See if your family likes a little more flavor in the oatmeal.

I think too much water was used in cooking the rice. Try 1 1/2 cups liquid per cup of rice. But everything else looks yummy.

Your turkey stew reminded me of my amish aunt who made the best chicken and dumplings , and she made her own dumplings from scratch like you did the noodles.
