A recipe for helping coughing out the mucus: in a mug add very warm milk, a good spoon of natural honey, a teaspoon of turmeric powder, a teaspoon of unpasteurized butter, half a teaspoon of soda and mix well. Drink while the milk is on the hotter warm side. Another trick to loosen the mucus: inhale steam from boiling water. I boil water in the water boiler, and breathe it in with a towel over my head with no cracks where the steam can get out. Do this twice a day when you feel the need.

Milk produces more mucus, which will make the coughing worse. Soda and carbonated beverages are also very bad because they make the coughing spells worse.
