John Moses Browning was a Genius who didn't make mistakes. The 25acp aka 6.35mm Browning was successfully used by Military and Police all over the world for 100 years. In the USA it was used by Undercover Agents and Police Detectives all the way until the late 1980's. Don't dismiss the 25acp! WHO-TEE-WHO!

I was an EMT for 30 years in an inner city. I responded to many shooting incidents. The majority of fatal incidents were from 22lr's. The other most noticeable thing about them was very little blood on the scene. That is death was almost instant. When your heart stops you have no blood pressure so bleeding stops. You can challenge the statistics all you like. That type of personal experience can wake you up to how lethal the 22lr really is.

I like the distance you fired these pistols from. I think an, "up close and personal" range is far more realistic for mouse guns than the usual 10 feet or so. The penetration of the 3 rounds show this. Good show.

Being a gun enthusiast here in the UK, we cant have semi auto centre fire since we had a mass shooting or two and they were banned. We can however have 22 magnum in semi auto so I am getting an AR15 semi auto chambered in 22 wmr and perhaps a 223 upper side charger...or maybe just a 308 x bolt....or maybe all three. 22 magnum will be accurate out to 200 yards, the 223 out to 500 and the 308 out to 1000 yards so I am covered. We can also have centre fire revolvers with a long barrel so a 44 magnum has to be in the safe as the 44 is the one gun Ive always wanted to shoot being a Dirty Harry nut. We have to jump through a lot of hoops to get into firearms here but its a fun thing to do so worth it. Sadly we cant use them for self defense, unless you are a criminal in which case you can have any gun you like and shoot whoever you like, where ever you like. Nice to see the laws are working and are only keeping the guns out of the hands of reasonable gun owners f******* a******

Enjoyed your video. Considering all the deer that have been one-shot jacklighted with the .22lr, I think it's effectiveness is apparent. Only place I disagree with you is that rimfire ammo "goes off 99% of the time". At times, certain manufacturers have so sped up production that some lots of rimfire ammo ignition was very unreliable. I learned early on to buy enough from the same lot ( CCI or Federal mainly) to practice accuracy , including unsighted "from the hip" to establish it's sure to fire reliability. And then to load only from that lot in my self defense .22rf. Takes at least 500rds. Storage is critical too. In places like Arizona, it's no big deal, but in Florida for instance the seep into anything humidity can turn good cartridges into worthless ones. There is no seal between the bullet and the case, so obviously keep oil also away from them. The most unreliable .22rf ammo I have experienced is Remington (many misfires and bullets so loose in case as to cause bullet/case separation resulting in jammed weapon when firing), Winchester, and Aguila. A .22rf revolver can be had in 9shot, and in case of a misfire, instantly presents a fresh round. With semi-autos, some are so small, it's easy to carry a backup to the backup. Treat your magazines with TLC. Any slight distortion that maybe you cannot even see if you should drop it, can jam your pistol. And pray you never HAVE to shoot anyone.
@Dontgetenslaved
@Dontgetenslaved 2 жыл бұрын
I've had nothing but good experience with Remington and aguila. Aguila standard is my go to for shooting suppressed. I may get a dud every 5 out of a box of 500. Not bad for target ammo. I've had less duds from Remington lately. Winchester on the other hand, total garbage. It just isn't bad primer, it's bad all around. Just look at my short I uploaded and youll see what I'm saying. If you carry anything, cci is in the top but you will still have a failure maybe 1/1000 if you're lucky.

A Baretta "Jetfire" was my first firearm, sold to me in the mid 60's when I was a teenager. Now, my weapon of choice is a 357 revolver, but it may be fun to pick up a used "Jetfire" somewhere for nostalgia. I thought the drop down barrel was a clever way to, not only top off the chamber, but to easily see when one IS in the chamber.

I've seen a video where the 22 wmr actually had a lower muzzle velocity from a two inch barrel and didn't perform all that well compared to a 22lr when comparing premium ammo. The guy filming the video was curious and then loaded a KelTec PMR30 with the 22wmr and the difference was night and day. In the short barrel mouse guns, you are actually better off with 22lr and a premium round.

I own a Black Widow in 22 mag and it's a nice little carry piece. It's just a little clumsy to handle and it's LOUD. I end up carrying my 922 H&R in 22 lr. more often. It's barely any bigger, holds nine rounds and is double action besides. I honestly think that in short barrels, modern 22 lr. is the equal of or superior in terminal performance to 22 Mag. Also, I've always been surprised at the penetration powers of .25 acp. It's an under rated cartridge. It could be loaded to much better ballistics these days.

The gilded metal is not a jacket so the 22 LR had immediate expanison as you saw. Not enough resistance on the copper jacketed 22 magnum hollowpoint with ballistic gel. Cloth over the ballistic gel might get the 22 magnum to expand instead of working a like solid and not expanding.

With a handgun, there is really no difference between 22lr and 22 mag. There isn't enough barrel length for the extra charge to build up enough pressure for there to be significantly more force behind the bullet. It makes a difference in rifles, but not handguns.

I have a Black Widow and like it very much. The big handle on it is nothing to look at, but it's easy to get a grip on and quite easy to manipulate for a small gun. The gun serves multiple roles and is a tool for our Wildlife Control business. We have the optional .22 short cylinder and use that for dispatching animals. The .22 lr /.22 wmr cylinder is for pocket/shorts/ kayak/cycling carry and it has come in handy. Great video!

It's been my experience that rational people go to lengths to avoid having any size holes suddenly appear in their bodies. Irrational people, however, may not act rationally when ANY size holes appear. I usually carry .380acp. When in bear country my edc is .38super with a hot penetrator load. I would not be averse to carrying .22lr, but not around bears. Thank you for this comparison and for your valued opinion.

I have carried a NAA .22 mag for years and it's a great little gun. I use CCI jacketed the hollow points don't do what they should in these little guns. There better in riffles. A little gun like this are more for getting your attacker to bleed out, not to take them down fast. Unless it's a head shot. I mostly carry a .38 however there is a need for this little gun.

after this video I would say capacity would be the biggest factor. if the .25 holds 12 rounds and the .22lr/mag is 5 or 6 rounds (I would only carry .22 in a revolver for edc) then the .25 wins by factor of how many holes a defender can put down range. Plus reloading speed of a semi-auto. This obviously rules out jams or ftf's where the revolver would be preferable.

That was a real good test. I had a friend who insisted that .22LR was much more powerful than the .25 ACP. But he was looking at rifle data for the .22LR and comparing it to pistol data for the .25 ACP. So they seem to be equal judging from your tests. John Browning made the .25 ACP for some reason., didn't he? The .25 feeds more reliably than a .22 out of an auto. And the .22 can go bad if there's a trace of oil or powder solvent in the barrel (it happened to me once). So, I'll take the .25 ACP over a .22LR every time!

I am guessing that the 22 LR tumbled early on. That was a positive result. FWIW, other testing i have seen seems to indicate that 22 LR hp's need 4" or more of barrel to get any expansion. The Mini Mag hp's seem to be a top load, and they do very well from a rifle. The 22 WMR seems to be about the same. The velocity loss in a handgun is greater, however, so one needs to test the ammo they plan to carry. The handgun specific 22 WMR ammo, like the Critical Defense a d the Gold Dot short barrel are probably the way to go.

Being a short guy with a little short guy hands, I can tell you I do just fine with my 25 Raven ACP, especially after seeing these ballistics tests. I feel even more at ease as it is, of course a "belly gun" and/or if your life depended on it. A very lethal gun head.
