Even with a 3080ti I still can’t peg consistent 144fps on highest settings for all games. I want both best graphics and high fps…..1080p let’s me do both. Also it extends the longevity of your build by letting you play games at reasonable fps longer than if you had a 1440p monitor where you would be upgrading sooner for playable frames.
@slumy81952 жыл бұрын
your right, no point in a 1440p 144hz monitor due to not bieng able to consistantly cap that 144fps. Even a 3090 ti at 1440p 144fps high settings struggles to maintain those frames in triple a games. Ruins the point of getting that "sweet spot" monitor.

I bought an HP Omen 27" 2560x1440 with native Gsync about 2 years ago. It was emotional buy. My 10 year old Lab passed away the day before and I needed something to try to take my thoughts away from it. Was cruising Wal-Mart and they had them on the shelf for $800.00. Checked their Web site and they were on sale for $600 (online only) so I bought it online for store pick-up. Left for a few hours, then returned and picked it up at the service desk. I've been fairly happy with it, very fast, no lag or stutter, but the colors are a bit washed and it has black banding at times. If I still played with Photoshop as a hobbby, I would have returned it. So my Black American Lab puppy just turned 7 months old and now I'm looking for a 32" or 34" with GSync. Fair winds and following seas to all.

For my SP games I just use 4K DSR and enjoy them that way, but I keep my frames high in my comp shooters. No need for a 1440p panel IMO. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy gaming on 2k monitor, but I tend to lower it down to 1080 when playing FPS games for maximum FPS. Everything looks a little fuzzy when I play 1080 on my 27” monitor. I rather have 1080p crispy looking game on 24” with maximum amount of FPS I can pull. That’s just my preference though. My only fatal issue with 1080p is blurry text in windows. Other than that, there's no reason to go higher than 1080p unless you do technical/creative work that requires it, especially on 25 inches or lower. Though I do admit 27 inches is pushing it for PC gaming, maybe thats okay for console/couch, but for a computer monitor I'd begin to look at higher resolutions options just for ppi reasons, or scaling back down to 22-25 inch screens. Nonetheless, as long as you 1) have decent calibration on your monitor 2) don't buy a cheap ass monitor 3) don't sit literally one foot from the screen like an idiot, you won't notice any pixilation in games/images. The most noticeable negative by far is small text is a little blurry.

Uncapped it was 200-sometimes 300 fps. Now they are about 80 to 100 and medium settings with 1440p. Wondering if it would be better to get a 27" 1080p at 240hz (the bottom right at 2:26) and get great frames? I run a i7-9700k and GTX 2070 super and I thought I would get at least 120 frames but no. "The smoothest experience isn't fully possible on a 4K display..." It is probably possible on a 4K display , just not at a 4K resolution ;) I was thinking that you were going to throw a 4K screen in the comparison, but sadly you didn't, I would have loved to see the difference. I especially wonder if 1080p gaming on 4K display is different than native 1080p because the scaling should be perfect (exactly 2x). Maybe you can try the LG 27GN950 as soon as it releases (the release is 1 August)? It is 4K 144Hz and 160Hz OC, 1ms GtG and it is Gsync-compatible and has Freesync Premium Pro. Maybe RTX 3000 and Big Navi are going to change things up a bit... probably worth testing 1080p on a 4k display vs native 4K right now and in the future with the upcoming GPU's.

I think 200-300hz 1080p is the sweetspot rightnow. You can run most games at enough frames to make the hz selection worth it, and your future proofed as new hardware will let you max out the fps on more games, and 300hz is about the soft limit of human vision. Basically by the time the hardware allows you to reliably max out the fps, you could probably just upgrade to a higher resolution at the same hz.
