I've had Crohn's Disease (an autoimmune disease) since I was 7 yrs old. I've been a chronic people pleaser my whole life. I've realized that the body mimics our beliefs, behaviour and boundaries. Boundaries are a big one with autoimmune sufferers. If you don't have boundaries with people, they will knock them down. Something as simple as saying NO is a game changer for people like us.

I am here to tell you that I have done all of this from testing to lifestyle changes and it absolutely works. It took me decades to find the right doctors and coaches, don’t let that be you. @ Alchohol was not a factor for me, but I did cut out sugar and reduced gluten and carbs. I first focused on sugar and saw improvement within 2 weeks and the cravings disappeared in that short amount of time. My advice would be to focus on one thing. Seeing benefit will motivate more lifestyle changes. Also, this doesn’t mean I never have a cookie or enjoy some pasta now and then. This is me (and so many of us)! For two years my doctor said you are fine, you have anxiety and need to seek mental heath advisors. Oh my gosh, I have all these symptoms mentioned here and once I realized menopause and loss of estragon was causing so many of the issues in addition to being a people pleasure my whole life and controlling everyone and everything, I was finally able to turn my health journey around. Life was changing, kids were grown, friend groups were no longer the same and we were empty nesters. Ugh, and we were resisting it all! Pretty much eating and drinking anything we wanted! Once I accepted the changes, practiced breathing and journalizing, changed my diet (sorry you need to cut out/reduce carbs and sugar but find great alternatives!), and practiced the Let Them Theory religiously, i was starting to experience a heathy change. I work out at least 20 minutes with weights, I cold plunge and I get outside every day. I now understand my cortisol levels and have accepted the traumas of life and i feel so much better. It is all connected! Women were made to think they have to be multitasking every minute of a day. No we don't! We need to slow down and enjoy our day and stop overdoing everything and anything. It is all about being balanced! Not easy but so important! And doctors just aren't able to grasp it yet as it was not part of their training. Do the research, make some changes, you are worth it! Thank you Mel once again, you nailed it for us! Keep talking about this, it is so needed!!!

There has been a multi-generational history in my family of autoimmune diseases among mostly the women in my family, and we JUST realized within the last decade and a half that there have been multiple generations within the family of undiagnosed disorders in many of the men in our family, which has created a system in which we women were raised to just caregive to an extreme extent (beyond the typical imbalance of caregiving by women in society, which is already at a pathological level.) We were just socialized to think this is just the way things are, and if we think it's unfair, WE'RE being "selfish," "uncaring," "unempathetic," etc. And it's the 24/7, unrelenting nature of the caregiving that makes us think we're drowning. But we're being told if we're drowning, it's because we're bad swimmers, when in reality, even Michael Phelps couldn't keep himself afloat if he had 3 kids plus another full-grown adult, none of whom can swim for themselves, hanging on to him, weighing him down, out in the middle of the ocean with the waves crashing over his head, with no row boat available to climb into and rest for even a little bit. We're told we're not doing enough, or doing it wrong, when if anyone had any idea of exactly what all we're ACTUALLY doing, they might see it's beyond what a human could reasonably be expected to do.

The No1 reason I listen to your podcast, and educate myself about physical and mental health is actually because of the disease I have. I was so sick of doctors telling me it is incurable, and I have to take the steroids for the rest of my life because it is my only choice. I refused to believe that because it just felt wrong. Starting a few months back, I gave up gluten, sugar, and alcohol (almost), not dairies though.😂 I am feeling great currently, constantly nervous of a possible flare-ups though. Thanks a lot ❤, love ya

At 65 and I have been diagnosed with Amyloidosis 13 yrs ago. My late 40's early 50's were very stressful and I was going through peri menopause. I can totally relate with everything said in this. My body was rebelling from everything I was going through. I have been dealing successfully with my blood disorder for 13 yrs, with constant intervention. I wished I would have been aware years ago what I was allowing myself to get into. When you're younger you feel invincible, but the body will rebel in time😢

Just when I thought I knew about auto immune that was really informative. I guess I didn’t realize type 1 diabetes was a form of Autoimmune, and all the triggers. I love your show. My daughter has psoriasis and I can see where her triggers are. Thank you I’m one of your biggest fans. I did buy your book last month. Let them, and I love it. You have the greatest guests on your show.

Physical, mental, sexual abuse and raped by six men between 5 and 19 yrs of age. I have arthritis and fibromyalgia. One man was my biological father, two stepfathers, one school teacher, two close men from the family. Mom's second husband beat her and eventually went to prison for something else. My Brother passed away from colon cancer. My Brother suffered from the above abuse.

Hi Mel I have absolutely loved your podcast channel. This is definitely one of my favorites. 2 years ago I began my health & wellness journey at age 46. I have learned so much along the way and how to help others through supplements to feel better. I can tell you that autoimmune is a huge health issue I run into a lot with people. This episode increased my knowledge and I just want to say thank you!

As a woman who had 8 miscarriages due to inappropriate nk levels, yes it was an autoimmune reaction. Had to have ivig and dexamethasone to carry to term pregnancy 9 and 10 . I have pots veds mcas and endo along with hypogamaglobunemia. Use a hyperbaric chamber daily and it’s effective at keeping my vascular system stable along with diet and so much more. Retired from my job. Most patients with veds are deceased at my age. Im still here!! Im a bit far gone from a severity perspective but after my heart stopped and i awoke from a coma i dedicated myself to daily discipline to learn to function again. Its hard work. Takes the first 3/4 hours of my day to get to cruising “altitude “, il with need pressure and 02 , but once Ive oxygenated and done self care im good for a solid 12-15 hours of quality living.

I'm watching all videos I can find regarding auto-immunity as I've had Hashimoto and psoriasis for decades now. This is by far the best video I've seen so far on this topic and I'm so so so grateful for it. I've been given medication to treat those conditions and no one ever thought to investigate and treat the root cause. This podcast is so eye opening and gives me so much information (and hope) to finally understand why I may have those 2 conditions in the first place. Thank you Mel for being an exceptional interviewer (it's like you read my mind about what I'd like to ask) and dr. Szal for sharing this life changing information.

Adult trauma…finally mentioned! We need to talk More, about adult , real time trauma. Lifestyle, pace of life, relationships, etc. We are even causing self induced trauma ~ over phone use, social media, tv binging , watching movies and shows that affect our nervous systems…affect our thots & mind… Not socializing enough, or not having support systems… Not having a greater Purpose than ourselves in life… Childhood trauma is just one side of it… we have so much we can start to control as we begin to heal from the way we betray ourselves 💕 Great information here ✨

Thanks a lot for showing us a path and instilling faith that if we work on certain things, we can get back our lives. I have been fighting through chronic pain for quiet some time now, few years rather. Though my condition is better today than it was 2 years back, still pain has not gone completely. For a person like me who was a trained dancer once upon a time, it was shocking when it started , stating due to muscle weakness. But probably I found answer through Dr Gabor . When ever I listen to that clip which you played, I just start crying. That was me..... now I am making deliberate changes in my behavior, for my own betterment

I struggled for about 5 years with undiagnosed Hashimotos Disease, my doctor would just dismiss me with "oh, its your age" ( I was 50). It took me to be in end stage organ failure, with my thyroid gland visibly swollen like a tumor and almost falling on the floor and feeling like I was dying for her to order a blood test, at which point I was so severely hypothyroid I was a hop away from a coma. Terrible times, shameful neglect. Prolonged untreated disease has given me heart problems, as Hashimotos can weaken the heart muscle. Great. Now im at high risk for stroke/heart attack due to downright negligence.

I used to run 2 miles a day. I stopped because I was always so sleepy. went to my Dr crying because I felt so sick and gained weight. He said I was always tired because was depressed and overweight 😭 for years until I moved city and a nurse practitioner found i had hashimotos. She told me there was no cure. She said i should stick to a veggie and protein diet. I learned that it was more then just eating veggies and protein. 6 years later I'm felling better but i still need to figure out this weight. 😢

I have psoriatic arthritis and other autoimmune diseases , It is horrible , it’s not only my skin but joints . I was diagnosed at 17 and am now about to turn 49 , the medication offered Im either allergic to or the side effects are risky and I feel they just mask the symptoms. I can’t believe the Dr talked about leaky gut because I went to a natural healing doctor that told me about that years ago but doctors weren’t acknowledging it. I consistently struggled to try to maintain it myself unfortunately eating healthy is expensive and going to a natural healing doctor is not covered by insurance. I am now going through perimenopause and it has flared up terribly. I am so glad you are shedding light on the subject. I’m so sorry that your daughter and husband has psoriasis I have it everywhere right now along with the arthritis and it’s really not something you can understand unless you have it. I am so glad this is after 30 years thing I have tried to get that I felt contributed to auto immune disease are finally being acknowledge! Im a single mom of 6 and I cant tell you how much it would mean to finally feel better!!! Thank you Mel, please do more episodes on this.
