Such a cool looking design that takes the concept of an integral to the next level. Visually similar to a Lin Rhea design and great for that. Bring part 2, please!

Cool more my style of doing things, have actually made with a similar method before, interesting variation on the traditional blacksmith knife is how I look at it, love the minimum tools and such being used as well, much more fun to build that way

Hi Andy! You got it! Ben did say that the reason he developed this is due to the fact that it is 90% forging - which is the fun stuff!

That handle construction is new to me. Sorta similar to the x-rhea style handle, just using a different method to get the same result. I personally plan on getting proficient in both methods.

It is actually inspired by the x-rhea knives from Lin Rhea 👌! I'd say it produces a similar result, but not the same. Just too different in detail. Of course the bigger picture of having a "blacksmiths knife" is the same but then I wouldn't compare a simple loop handle blacksmith's knife with Lin's outstanding work either. That's very subjective though.

Its a really cool concept, personally I like making handles, bolsters and guards to get that interface between blade and user just right so its not for me. But I'm also one of the sick bastards that doesn't whine endlessly when it comes to hand sanding so there's probably some kind of malfunction on my behalf.
@UKBladeshow
@UKBladeshow Жыл бұрын
Hahaha! I know where you're coming from though mate. Hand sanding can be a $%^&*( at times! Benjamin does a lot of very fancy handles though in case you weren't aware - check his website out!

Can you tell us more about "12519" Steel? Does it go by other names in other parts of the world? I can't seem to find what kind of steel this refers to.
@UKBladeshow
@UKBladeshow Жыл бұрын
Good question. I think from what I gather it is THAT rare. I will see if I can find a source for this and will post here if I do.
@kamon_knives
@kamon_knives Жыл бұрын
1.2519 is a tungsten alloyed cold working tool steel with with about 1,1% C / 1,3% W / 1,2% Cr a little Vanadium and a little Manganese. It's similar to aogami or how I like to put it like ball bearing steel on steroids. As it has similar chromium content but added carbon and tungsten for better wear resistence. You should find info about the steel online but you most likely won't find it available as it ran out. I bought a bigger amount of it years ago and I have it for years to come. However if you are interested in a similar steel then look into Apex ultra. It's a high carbon tungsten alloyed steel as well and even exceeds the properties of 1.2519, aogami and the likes.

According to one of Larrin's articles on KnifeSteelNerds (Is Blue Super Steel Actually Super?) it's pretty close to O7 but a tad more Cr.
