good shit bro, motivation gets you started, dicipline is what keeps you going. Being diciplined is sacrificing something you want in the moment for something even better later on. Tip for y'all is to practice doing things you DON'T wanna do, this could be anything, just do it (or "just start" as one wise man once said...). Dicipline can be trained just like anything else

I swear bro... Practice is so important, start with very basic systems using Roblox docs or KZbin tutorials (avoid free models and actually try to understand). Don't try advanced stuff as a beginner, build a solid foundation first and build your knowledge little by little, then when you feel ready, you can start making your game. That's how I started Roblox dev.

It's not that you can't make a successful game for one of your first games, but that most devs won't so they shouldn't expect it. Either way, it's better to start small and build up in complexity over time.

@@SmartyRBX hey, I need some advice, I’m making a game on roblox, but it’s a team one because I couldn’t download roblox studio on windows (it wasn’t verified) it’s a bit of a complex game, we have good modelers and animators, but one scripter, and he’s like a 6/10 and also one more problem is how despite it being a r6 game, some of the mutants (it’s a infection game about mutants) have more joints on each limb and development is a bit slow, and I the scripter to improve so we can make this easier

This is true for me. I'm a developer of 5 years, and when i make games, i usually end up at a good start, but then my friend who bothers me to be added to the game comes in, and i finally add him. Then he comes up with stuff that maybe dont even fit the game genre or he just gets too ahead of himself. For instance, i was making this battlegrounds game (still updating it) He disturbed me over and over again to add him until i finally did. He started adding free models here and there, ruining the game, And wanting to make a whole live event, eventually i just kicked him, now my games are doing better. And yor videos actually help me push through as a developer and keep trying.

Another thing to take note is trying not to get yourself distracted. Me personally, oftenly get distracted by things around me. For example, KZbin clips or even new ideas for a new game. What I used to do is I started a project where I had in my head, and as you might expected. It doesn't work out really well, and then I get another idea, instead of note it down. I started a new one, leaving the previous one stranded. I regret doing that, but currently I'm focusing on developing a single project and try not to get myself distract again. Thanks to this video again, though. It kinda reminds me of what I'm doing at the moment.

It doesn't have to though - see it as a lesson in what works. Any time you see a game like that, ask yourself "What are they're doing right?" Because even if you don't like everything about it, they have to be doing something correctly to succeed like that. You can take it and adapt it into your personal strategy in your own way. There is a lesson everywhere that you can use to make better games and reach more success.

Then there are problems in your approach and you need to find them and fix them. It’s the hard truth - but everyone must face it to reach the next level in anything. Self-awareness is a must. Ask yourself why people aren’t playing your game and ruthlessly figure out what is lacking and how it could be better. It’s your responsibility, and your responsibility alone to make this work.

Honestly, stuff like this isn’t entirely true. You’re forgetting that most people get into game development simply because it’s fun. I do game development not just for the payment but because I genuinely enjoy creating games. Sure, they might not be the best, but I still have a blast making them and others can agree with me. I consider myself a somewhat successful solo game developer. I own a game with over 100k visits and an active player base, typically 20 to 40 players at any given time. How long did it take to become successful? Two years. In those two years, I went from making a simple game with mostly free models to developing an advanced game that tons of people have played. How did I learn? I wanted to learn because game development was just that enjoyable for me. Over time, I started with the basics of scripting, like how to destroy parts or create an "E to interact" system. Then I gradually challenged myself to create more advanced features, which helped me become skilled in scripting. If I couldn’t do something, I’d revisit it a month later after learning more. That’s what I did for two years. I never even watched a KZbin tutorial. I started scripting by studying free models. I’d look at the scripts included in the free models I needed, and over time, after repeatedly using those scripts, I memorized what to write without needing to reference the free model scripts. However, not everything I needed was available in free models, so I eventually turned to forums and other resources to continue learning. I think much of what you said is somewhat true, but it feels like it only applies to those who approach development purely for its benefits rather than because it’s fun. Personally, I don’t enjoy making games as much as I used to. These days, I prefer working on other people’s games rather than creating my own. If a game I make gains attention or becomes popular, like the one I mentioned earlier, it motivates me to keep updating it. Overall, it’s an okay video, but most of the points you made don’t fully resonate with my experience. I just felt like I needed to share this perspective.
@SmartyRBX
@SmartyRBX Ай бұрын
I completely disagree. This guide applies to everyone no matter if they are doing it for fun or for money (or both), and has the best advice you will find anywhere for both approaches. It’s important to have tangible goals either way too and aim for success, as it will make your experience in development better and your progression more efficient. Your journey also aligns with the core of my advice to devs looking to make entire games - make simple games first, and slowly increase in complexity over time. You get funds not necessarily as an end in themselves, but as the means to help you make more advanced projects later. Large games require funding. You should go earn them. People also need money to live. Even if you just do it for fun, everyone wants an extra income source. So why not do the extra work to make your game effective in the market and earn a lot of money for your effort and value you bring to the table. Aiming to make money is useful for everyone, as everyone needs money for something. The mindsets in this video, especially of discipline and adaptability are so necessary that even suggesting the advice isn’t applicable to all devs is a detrimental thing to say to those devs (who likely need the information or they’ll quit). Every developer needs the info in this video. If they don’t have discipline or adaptability, they will fail - whether they do it for fun, money, or anything else, these are necessary to persist through the hard parts. Thanks for the comment and glad you’re seeing some success in development. But keep in mind that all devs should ideally have both passion (have fun and love creation) and pragmatism (aim to get results, especially income), not one or the other.

for learning code, i recommend the ones where you pay. Why would i pay if there is a free lesson?. First of all pay ones makes the teacher be more straight forward and make sure that every lessons they create are something helpful. While the free ones are good. It just different when you pay a teacher to watch their lecture.

I am in a sticky situation, as the time that im watching this video, im working on a roblox game with an idea that is a little harder to do, so do i give up on the game for now, go make a simpler one and then as im better finnish the first game or should i just stick to the first game and finish it?? i am a good 20% done with the first game. What should i do?

as a roblox developer for 4 years, I am impressed by my young self. I started scripting at 9 and now 4 years later I am scripting bigger and harder stuff I thought I wouldn't and I'm getting robux as well like 6k per month. and yes adaptability is also a thing I did, I started modelling at the age of 11 in blender and now I can model decently and make my own projects and it goes the same for GFX. also nice editing Edit: the bigger and harder stuff is advanced scripting btw

@Specter109
@Specter109 Ай бұрын
@@CriticalJP I would consider advanced scripting being critical thinking of errors like Dictionary errors and etc. this also include optimizations, Knowledge on math or physics for Bezier Curve, Splines and quaternions. organization is also a thing like using module script and OOP Edit: Advanced scripting is also doing stuff like custom frameworks, anti-exploit and algorithm design

Passion, passion is the only real drive that’ll keep you going. If you truly love this kind of stuff, weather it going to be tuff, hard, difficult, you’ll never give up, you’ll keep driving. Find something you love and you’ll never find it boring or hard

You're right, passion helps, but passion alone won't make you a successful dev. You need to have discipline to make it through rough patches too.

@IWILLCOMEFORU As an advanced scripter I can assure that you will get there, it just takes about 6-10 months if your really serious about making complex games. I was surprised to see how 8 months ago I was just watching TheDevKing and later I can script mechanics like in deepwoken. My advice is practise(Create basic systems like pet hatching, combat, sprinting), read other scripts and understand

I am a bit young to make games, but I do it for the engagement, the fun, and the robux. I made an obby, called Rainbow Obby With Admin, and there are donation game passes, and a VIP admin game pass. But one thing. As I went along, I realized, I made a lot more mistakes than I expected. Some kill bricks weren't working, I forgot to add scripts, and the gui. Do you know what I did? Even though I wanted to work on it the day after, that same day, I debugged all of it. I made things work. One thing you said that was very inspirational to me was when you said "Even when you don't want to do it, push through it. It's discipline". All of the time, I use tutorials to make stuff that includes scripting. I use AI, and tutorials. But one thing that sparked in me that may not happen to many else, I learned something from that. As I looked further into each string, I realized what some variables, functions, prints, and so on, meant. I have been meaning to use the "How To Script" tutorials, but each time I start I don't feel like it anymore. But that inspirational note, has inspired me to do that. Maybe the outcome will be awesome. But another note, was that you told us to take things step by step. I wanted to make a big battle game. But I couldn't do it. Not without the proper steps. So then, I just continued to make this obby game. Thank you.

Didn't watch your video fully but another thing some people do is that people will watch the tutorials but will not know what to do with sed knowledge even if they know what they wanna make cus they dont know how to put some of the stuff things they learned into something. I think tutorials are very helpful because, it helps people learn some of the things that they can do with coding and people can add the knowledge they already learned into the game/project

I'm not even able to create an obby, I bought courses, I finished playlists and everything. The problem is that I have to watch videos in English with subtitles. I know all the basics of scripting in Roblox, do I start making an obby or do I continue learning for more months?
