Business owners make videos like these not considering the fact that most start-ups are looking to be funded. When seeking funds in the form of loans or grants, most require that business to have a business plan. Not to mention, when creating your business plan, your outlook on your business is also being built. It’s as though you’re being pushed into that business mindset. Having that overview of your business helps YOU, the business owner, understand just what you are doing. It’s a great way to organize your business from the start, that way you can avoid having multiple moving parts such as spending money unnecessarily, starting one thing and never finishing the other, etc. We have to consider all parts of a thing before we hit Cancel on that thing, and then decide to “educate” everyone else about how bad that thing is. This info is misleading.

Filling out the slots will show you cracks in your idea. This will save you time while also understanding the full picture. Business plans are important for growth. Old school business plans = waste of time for early stage companies Instead quickly map out a business model canvas in 30 minutes. Then identify assumptions. Prioritise those assumptions based on 2 things: 1. how much evidence you have 2. how important each assumption i to the success of your business Then take the assumptions that have least evidence but are most important Run experiments to test your idea Yes it might be a landing page / funnel But it might be as simple as a customer interview or survey to start with So we go through a loop: business design and testing First quickly make business experiments with the business model canvas and value proposition canvas or even just a napkin sketch Then design and run experiments Based on what you learn, you decide whether to pivot, persevere or kill your idea. The quicker you kill your idea, the less time money and energy you waste on a business idea that isn't going to work.

There's different types and lengths of business plans, you need to have a logical strategy at a minimum and have a vision for what you want to achieve, that won't happen if you just act aimlessly

If I'm not wrong you first create a business model. Then you go into Customer Development which is basically what you're talking about in the video Ur business plan is not ur own introduction to ur idea, its introducing it to others anad ur team based on facts that you've amassed prior to that.

What a BS.. most people can't build a business for products that others want. Or even think about how to strategize a business post-validation. Validating an idea and driving traffic is just a small part of a business. It is like saying that you know how to make a nice hotdog and sending out the invites to your hotdog party. At the end you end up broke - or with debt - and can't drive more business. You need to understand costs, margins, operations, regulations, planning, business dev strategy etc.

this is attention seeking and toxic advice. After trashing the idea of a business plan, what he then goes on to describe is, in fact, a standard component of all business plans, i.e. researching and testing the market. He appears to not know what a business plan actually is. Also I do not know of anyone who spends 6 months in planning, that would be a recipe for the zeitgeist related info to be out of date. A couple of weeks is good for most businesses, with the concept that it is a "living document" and should be re examined and modified at regular intervals. If he is building anything or offering any complex service how does he afford it without a financial plan. How does he tailor the goods or services without a swot analysis of the opposition. Is he acting alone or does he need to comply with HR laws. What is his branding, identity, colour scheme. If the idea is popular how does he scale, and what are the next series of contingency steps, will they just be examined as he goes along. What if the customer base notices that everything he does is unthought out and half arsed. "old school" would apply to something out dated. THINKING is not obsolete in fact it is a more powerful tool than ever
