Why A Few Good Men is Perfect

I agree, that it's a nigh-on Perfect movie. One of the most underrated aspects of the movie, also, is how contemporary and ageless it seems. As of writing its 32 years old and yet the cinematography, costume and styling make it look like it could have been shot yesterday. It's an absolutely beautiful movie that I never get tired of watching.

I love this movie. Like "Jaws," it is infinitly rewatchable. One of the top films of 90's, right up there with "T2" and "The Silence Of The Lambs." But, it's not a perfect film. Something I recently realized about this movie, where are Santiago's parents? Or family? I mean, we get to see Dawson's mother and father, and Downey's Aunt Jenny, but nothing for Santiago.

IMO one of the BEST things about the movie is what they don't show - the editing is so slick and moves the story along at light speed, leaving you to fill out the details. It doesn't tell you much about Santiago because the movie isn't about Santiago.

@evilzzzability Now that I think about it some more, I definitely see your point. The movie is about Dawson and Downey to a point, but even more so, it's about the journey (and maturation) of Daniel Kaffe. I still think it would have been interesting if Santiago's parents actually confronted Kaffe asking him why he's defending the men who killed their boy. I'm wondering if there could have been a way to get them in film and not slow down the momentum?

Ill be honest, the most iconic line might just be "deep down in places you dont talk about at parties you *want* me on that wall. You *NEED* me on that wall." Ita the summation of the entire theme of the movie. We all know that what Jessup, and subsequently all the men inder him, did was absolutely wrong and unforgivable. Until the day you need the men that would do something like that on the wall to defend it. Then youd be begging for someone like that there to do just that. Unspeakable, unforgivable acts. You want them there. You need them there. You just dont want to acknowledge that fact.... That truth.

It’s so funny, because when he yells in the “lousy softball player” line, it’s not squeaky. But in the “I know the law”, oh he squeaks 😂 And I wouldn’t have it any other way!

True however, proper legal adherence RARELY makes for good on screen drama lol
