When I was younger a few of my friends were going down the rabbit hole of fear and I went down with them for a period of time. I couldn't keep track of the stereotypes and just got a job instead. It was easier to just find something else to do then to sit around and do drugs and find reasons to hate people i never met. I don't talk to them anymore and I wonder if they are still stuck in that state of mind but i don't waste much time. For me and I imagine for many others, it's education and jobs. Find work, that exposes you to people, go to school, that teaches history and facts and critical thinking. These eliminate fear and ignorance.

@@T0ghar Indeed. What Mr. Peace and Tranquility seems to fail to understand is that while, yes, suffering as a result of oppression might indeed foster hatred, what that quote means is that fear, especially when it comes from a position of ignorance, can start a chain reaction. These people are angered by what they don't understand, which, if not controlled, leads to unbridled hate which can often not be reasoned with. Of course, what comes next is the suffering by the target of that fear as we clearly saw on display in New Zealand. Of course, I'm not sure if responding to what is obviously a troll is really worth the effort, but it still felt worth mentioning. At least for the benefit of others who might stumble upon his inane comment.

@Dr Professor - Not sure how that is a response to what I posted, but okay, here goes... I do wipe my feet at the door in in some houses (where expected), take my shoes off and put house slippers on. In some houses, I belch after a meal, as it is expected and in some I use a knife and a fork to eat one small bite at a time while in others I slurp the soup as it as a compliment to the cook. Culture are different. Cultures make up the fabric of the US and the World. Some have more overlap than others. Some are more survivalist than others. Some are more entitled than others. There is nothing but good that comes from learning about other cultures if you the individual chooses to make it so. There are bad people in all cultures. Most cultures are about the welfare of the community, not just the individual (which is why they survived as a culture). What are the things you are worried about that culture bring with them? What are you worried about that people regardless of culture bring with them? These are two very different things. Most crimes being committed by people from other cultures are crimes in their culture. That is the individual. Some things that a culture considers to be okay to do may be looked down upon or even be considered criminal in another culture. That is the culture. My question to you is what are your fear/experiences in each of these two categories?

I just watched it, and researched if it was a true story, or just made for a point. It is based on his life in part. The heart of the movie is this guys life, just not specific instances. However, watching the film again nearly 20 years later I did not realize that the ignorance of certain people in the Republican party existed back then. I was just in my 20s and my world was small. That whole scene at the dinner table really hit home as I have had these conversations with my Republican friends, thank God it never escalated to the point it did in the movie. Everyone should watch that movie and pay attention. The realization that people are not born with this kind of hate and ignorance. It is a learned behavior. All should strive to care for one another.

Hatred toward other races is learned behavior. I am a male Hispanic that grew in the predominately black city of Compton in the 70's. My parents did not like blacks because my brothers and I took many beatings at their hands. I remember not understanding their hatred towards them because, even though we did get beat up by blacks, my best friends were also black. To me, it was just bad kids. Nothing to do with race. All races have bad apples. I'm fortunate that my parent's misplaced and misunderstood hatred never made it's way into my being. Yet, I understand how easy it could be for children to be misled into hating. I wish my parents were still around so I could have the opportunity to share this with them. It must be ugly living with hate in your heart.

Fear of the unknown is our greatest fear. By suggesting people meet with other people of different faiths, Frank knows that if we educate ourselves then the unknown won't be so fearful. Frank is cool. I hope he continues to speak this way, he's a great example of how we can change for the better.

Geez lady, let the man speak. His perspective is what we want to hear. You keep butting in. I can see a man who needed help and guidance and community, but unfortunately chose the wrong path at first. I respect his decision to find a better path and reach out. Yes, fear is the deepest motivator for the hatred and atrocities in this world. And fear is also the reason for the ignorance and unwillingness of people to want to acknowledge that there is this epidemic rising to such extreme heights.

American history x is one of the best movies. It really teaches a lesson everyone should learn, to learn to see other people as humans too. Sure it's a sad movie but it echoes reality too. I see why this man was the inspiration. I love what he said though and glad he's changed.

The problem with any hate groups, from White Nationalists, to Black Panther, to Islam Extremists is conservatism. Take away their skin colours and their beliefs are all the same: always strive to impose dominance on other groups while always skeptical towards democracy and academia. This is why I always disagree with Liberals about stricter gun ownership, because guns are not the problem, the Right is. Conservatism is a failed ideology, and hinders the growth of any societies.
