Why Africa is Furious With The US over UNSC Seats? | Firstpost Africa
African leaders are anguished by the hollow support that the United States has given them at the United Nations. Although Washington said it would back Africa for two permanent seats on the U.N. Security Council, it however added that new entrants should not be automatically handed over veto power. This has irked policymakers in Africa who have been calling for substantial reforms to the UNSC, which generally sees 60% to 70% of its agendas from the continent. While Africa’s call for more representation has gotten support from many others, including the existing permanent members of UNSC, the road to reforms and representation is still long. Will Africa be able to get permanent seats on the UNSC? Watch now to know more.

@@chisomnzeh6249that would better Nigeria than South Africa. In the near future, South Africa is about to be ruled by the Apartheid descendants and will act against african interests. Even now through their ugly GNU are making anti-black policies to discriminate against them!

I agree with you! South Africa always puts the African agenda forward! United Nations, G20 & BRICS plus more summits. There's no better country. We also have the largest population of migrants in Africa. One seat to African Union and one seat to South Africa

One thing they will never do, is give a permanent seat with veto powers to South Africa 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦...Not after the ICJ case. They'll give it to a country they can control, like Nigeria.

We as a continent aren't serious enough. Boycotting all forthcoming UNSC meeting will be a reasonable thing for African leaders to do.

This is why many nations around the world are electing to leave the UN and join an ethical BRICS council that takes power away from the US. Should power in the UNSC continue to be gerrymandered away from the nations and regions most in need, the UN will have lost much of its impact around the globe, especially considering the exacerbated conflict in Israel, and thus Sudan and Congo. Thanks for keeping us all informed as it is the collective voice of the well informed around the globe that can best hope to positively correct the ensuing outcomes.

Why should any country get a veto right? Why not just create a parallel organisation to in where everyone will have equal rights ?

It should be put to a vote, not just being decided by America, because UN is a world body. If not then all African nations should resign to form the United Nations of Africa, including BRICS. Slavery is a thing of the past, and all humans are equal in today's world. No puppet countries should be allowed.

The veto power is a fundamentally flawed concept, but it's necessary for the current P5, as if they couldn't have it, they may leave the UN. Adding more vetoes could make it even harder to get resolutions passed, though.
