Imagine serving the best at this age and Stage of Carrier wtf

That is pretty normal, almost every player has a better serve in the later part of their career except for people like Roddick who destroyed their shoulder.

Great to see Nick how players improve their games. Novak is so professional and have that analitical mind, looks like he can fix any problem, very intelligent guy.

Basically his serve motion is becoming more like Rogers
@juls5347Күн бұрын
But in 08 he had an abbreviated motion if I recall correctly, with the wilson racket. It was in 09 when he started doing some weird preparation and opening the chest a lot. I think the clip that Niko shows is from 2010 when he improved a that motion.

in 2009-2010 he had his worst serve motion.

Very interesting as always Nick! Good spot for the new stance changes and the loading. However, you may have made a small 'historical' mistake. Nole serve was basically identical from 2005 to 2009. Pretty good, average for his size probably. Sometimes excellent (AO SF 2008). But under Todd Martin his serve became horrendous in 2009/2010, where his stats worsened on serve way more than on return. It's the period he had his famous 'elbow breaking' serve. Then, from 2011, he has been using the "djoker" serve which had itself plenty of versions as you remind us here (but basically it does look very similar). But it's after firing Martin that he started to bring closer the forearm again (in fact, the problem was mainly introduced by Todd as before 2009 it was really nothing shocking) Thx for the analysis tho!

Ok so in 2011 he had the Djoker serve? Very interested and I did not remember those poor serving years. Can you put up some clips for accuracy? Would like to see it in 2009/2010

@@IntuitiveTennis Here is the first video of him 2010 I found (I believe if you click it brings you to the right moment, but any serve of him should do) : kzbin.info/www/bejne/fmjZapRogJWjec0 I think it's clear that he has the arm issue worse than in 2008 for example (also against Tsonga): kzbin.info/www/bejne/rImtmoSarranbMU A few stats (points won per game type), which only say so much as obviously serve is not everything in a serve point: 2008 serve :68% return : 41% 2009 serve :66% return : 42% 2010 serve :64% return : 42% 2011 serve :68% return : 45% So return got better (or stable at least until 2011) but serve worsened until 2011, when he abandonned Todd. He never dipped below 67% for his remaining career, except in 2017 (elbow injury and very poor year), and even there it was 66%, not as bad as 2010. A better view for 2010 (obviously the 2018 is sort of inaccurate, it was only for elbow recovery not the whole year): kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYm3lpqXlK2XiaM&ab_channel=asinai

That elbow position is so important on the serve. I even think serve should be learned from there. If you do not load that elbow correctly putting it in right place, serve will be weak. For some players it comes naturally so they are not even aware of that, but for some, it must be learned and felt with the body many times.

Game getting so physical that players now looking for more free points, stefanos saying players hitting bigger off the ground, to counter this players are looking at the serve to get them out of trouble. Makes you wonder whether more volleys will result from this if serve becomes much more effective

Niko Todd martin destroyed his serve in 2009 infact by suggesting stiff arm serving. He went back with marian vajda in 2010 and ironed out the stiff arm serving Todd martin taught him in 2008-09.
