It's basically upto us if we want to adapt all the lessons by them and how and where we use them. I'm smart enough to not flaunt my pronunciation skills in front of my friends and relatives. I'm neither judging them if they're not pronouncing as I am. But I can surely use them to impress my boss. I can use better words and their alternatives in my write ups and articles because I've love for the language and i have learnt a lot from their lessons (esp Aleena Raees's videos. She injects a drop of confidence within me and elevates my love for the language everytime i listen to her. I don't know much about Kanchan). It's not like they're demeaning the Indian pronunciation, they're just telling the better ways to do them. However, I agree they should stop using the phrases like "ye pronunciation ghalat hai" or "you're mispronouncing these words". It's just that they have studied enough and hard and hence are now making their living by using their capabilities and showing it off. There's nothing wrong in that. Talking about ki ye words English movies ya kahin aur use nai hote, usse hme kya fark padta hai? Hme bs ye pta ho ki is word ko aise b bol sakte hn, bs ab hm unhen kb, kaise, kahan bolen ya use karen ye hmare upar hai P.S. People are using the word "accent, Indian accent and all". Remember she had said in her interview with Sandeep Maheshwari that any accent is good and she hasn't backed off from her words. She's correcting the pronunciation and other skills like communication. PRONUNCIATION AND ACCENT ARE TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS. POLES APART.

Here's my take on the video, I've been in one of the top 5 English medium boarding schools from class 1 till 12th. The pronounciation of words like plumber and poem was corrected by our teachers as well,and it did help especially those students who were planning to study abroad. Having control on your language is something which is very useful for writing SOPs and essays, which are required for applying abroad. Personally,Urdu is the means of communication in our house and I dislike it if someone cant pronounce the words properly. I know how to speak and write Urdu,Hindi and English very well and a tad bit of Spanish. When I was learning Spanish,i made sure to pronounce the word exactly how it is supposed to be pronounced. It's easier to gwl in with soanosh soeaking people that way. This was my take on the video. And agar indian English aati hi hai,toh what's the point of watching hwr channel. Language is pure art. You can pronounce words however you want to and it's alright it doesn't magically change the way language works. People have accents, but there's always a correct pronunciation. Americans mispronounce Indian names all the time, and we correct them. If you cannot pronounce Aniruddh because your tongue isn't trained to make the sound of "ddh" it doesn't change the fact that it's pronounced in a certain way. Croissant begins with "Khwa" sound even if you call it "Crausaunt". There are correct pronunciations, and there are incorrect pronounciations. Not everyone is a language geek, but some are. Some genuinely want to learn the correct way of pronouncing words. Channels like English with Lucy make videos for a targetted audience, and you are free to ignore those videos. But mocking such channels and creators just because you don't want to consume their content is stupid and embarassing.

Wholeheartedly agree. It’s the first video of spill bee I don’t completely agree with. There is always a way words were “meant to” be pronounced. French and Italian too have their own way of speaking and pronunciation but that doesn’t invalidate the original pronunciations. It is OKAY for someone to try to speak whatever language they speak in the most proficient manner. Especially now that we might have to communicate/orate to western audience. An American making an effort to pronounce Hindi words in the best way possible so that Indians can understand him better is never ridiculed, so should be the other way around.

I disagree. Just because an accent or mispronunciation is used on a large scale doesn't make it right and I completely agree with Aleena and other creators who try to correct and spread awareness. I believe Google only recognizes our pronounciation because of India's population and also since India's majority speak that way. I don't like this whole 'made in India so we flow with it' mentality. Its hard to watch ppl stray away from the original pronunciation using their own local pronunciation (even accent at times but I let it slide). Just like we correct foreigners for their mispronunciation of Indian words, we should correct ourselves too (if we wish to that is). Probably just me who cringes so hard when people pronounce words horribly. Edit- Ayo I didn't realize I wrote local accent instead of local pronounciation when I meant pronounciation, my bad

I think Aleena is doing a great job in her videos. I like how she teaches correct pronunciations to everyone. Yes, Indian pronunciation is a thing but in her latest videos, she has also been telling the Indian one too. (let's not judge her old videos because every creator grows like you did!). Now talking about her saying "You are mispronouncing these words" in the beginning of her video, I think you know this strategy very well, Spill Bee, because you use this strategy too! It's like a hook to grab attention & make people watch. You do this ALL the time in your videos! So why should she not do this? It's kinda hypocritical, don't you think? Also, this is NOT a hate comment for you because I'm just giving my opinion like you did in the video. You're not wrong in everything you said. You're right that if we keep getting stuck on remembering correct pronunciation, it will be difficult to talk. But just because it's hard to remember, doesn't mean we'll not attempt to learn the correct pronunciation. And it's also okay to choose not to learn. Aleena isn't forcing anyone. She is just providing education. If people still want to stick to their old pronunciation for clarity purpose, they absolutely can.

The entire point of this video is....who decides what's the correct pronunciation...and are we still going to let our colonial past rule our present....all over the world ppl pronounce different words in a variety of ways and no one's got any issue but it's a peculiar condition here in the subcontinent that we attach extra privileges to English as a language and are hell bent on imitating pronunciation and diction from our western counterparts ....which is infact completely wrong and more so a big waste of time. You're actually isolating yourself from a large part of the population who wouldn't understand what you're saying...and hence you'll have to repeat yourself each time you use the "correct" pronunciation. If you are immigrating to the states or UK...sure thing.....you should learn their accent and pronunciations but learning all this crap while you're back in India is utter waste of time becoz in all honesty... you'll never be able to use any of these words for effective communication here in india.

You didn't get the point, she is saying that they cannot directly mention that these words are pronounced wrongly.
@srishti.rathour2 жыл бұрын
@@centralist_news5352 There is a right and wrong for every language. And yes, that right & wrong can be subjective & no one person should get to decide. But what Aleena is teaching is conventions of the language (rules that have been set to convey globally). I'm not talking about accent here. I'm talking about pronunciation. There are limited conventions when it comes to pronunciations & that's what Aleena's videos are all about. Also, important point, just because we are discussing case for English language, you think it's about "colonial past" but that has nothing to do with it. You'll understand if you consider another language. So, for example, if someone mispronounces Hindi, would you call them out? In most cases, yes. I have seen this happen. Would you say that there is no right pronunciation for Hindi? No! Because people who speak Hindi have learnt a convention & whenever someone new goes against the convention, it doesn't sound like Hindi anymore. I'm just trying to make the point that English is a language just like any other & Aleena talks about the conventions. Please don't bring "colonialism" into everything, especially where it's not related.

All right, in my humble opinion, each language has an origin. So, often when we talk about "correct" pronunciation, linguists or language enthusiasts respect the roots and origin of a language and follow the phonetics of that language. Of course, languages evolve that is how they exist (ex: colloquialism) but there is still a proper manner of presenting them. So, I did not quite agree with the topic of this video. Apologies for such a long comment. Thank you for spending your valuable time in reading this. And my sincere apologies if this comment hurt anyone's sentiments. 😊

I've personally never believed that there are right or wrong ways to pronounce words, as u said people from different parts of the world have their own accent and thus pronounce words differently and that's okay and we should respect that. But again sm words do have a definite pronunciation, for example stomach, it has a "c" sound and the h is silent, and it's pronounced in this way all over the world, so here accent doesn't play a huge role. Same for words like psychology (h is silent) & receipt (p is silent)

We may grasp a word from anywhere and we pronounce it the same way we've heard when it stayed in our memory. Stressing on pronunciations and accents is very outdated to the present day world. And also using "too difficult" or "too simple" vocab isn't a point to raise kuz due to acess to every word, the global vocabulary is also growing and at the same time, it's perfectly OK to keep simple. Enjoy your conversations and listening to the people you talk to, rather than judge them. Being natural in whatever your way is is a comfort to yourself and others.

This was truly needed. Look at Japanese people, they have their own way of speaking english words, but does someone look down upon them? No, because their soft power and their mannerism speaks for them, despite having a cruel history they're not being mocked for their own way of speaking english. If they don't care, why should we force others in our own country? This pretentious attitude needs to be stopped. It should be more than enough if you understand what I said in english, not in the way I said those words, because it seems like they're not even paying attention to the content of my speech but how I say each word which is truly annoying because it's like you're just focusing on surface level - which just shows how shallow people are.

We have our accents but there is a way to pronounce words. It's kinda complicated but English is not India's native language so we can't claim our pronunciation is right. We don't need to exactly sound like British or American but it needs to be closer to that.... Specially if you have never went to these countries ever. I mean it's not easy to get rid of an accent so it's always going to be there. It's literally like if someone is talking in Bengali in Punjabi accent. There is a way to pronounce the words and you may never pronounce them like natives ones but if you are fluent in it your pronounciation needs to be right and your native accent should sound very negligible when you talk that other language. People need to stop shaming people just because they are more good at it. They are just teaching us pronounce the words correctly and even if you learn that we can never sound exactly like British or American ones. It's just people don't like to improve and take it to their ego. Imagine if an American is speaking in English and when someone try to help him to pronounce hindi word right way he say no it's just my accent I don't need to talk like Indians! Now I think you should have understood it even learning that how to pronounce word right you can't have exactly same accent. They are similar but not exactly same.
