Alonso gave the main reason, but you completely ignored it. He’s gotten along very well with most of his team mates, and generally most drivers on the grid. Since his early days he’s always had many friends on the grid. Just like people say he’s changed, he hasn’t much. The biggest difference is the coverage of him by the Uk F1 media. They were always negative and antagonistic to him just as they were to Vettel, Rosberg, Max, Massa and before them Schumi. Basically any driver that was a rival to their chosen driver.

Stroll has always had decent relationships with his more experienced teammates like Massa, Perez, & now Alonso. Stroll knows Alonso is one of the best ever and wants to learn from him to perform well. Alonso was like this for Esteban too in 2021, the problem was that Ocon took the gloves off in 2022. Ocon is more talented than Stroll but he just pushed the envelope v. Alonso too far which probably soured their relationship (also Alonso probably didn't see a lot of potential at Alpine going forward which is why he left).

i can understand the point of view for Ocon wanting to beat Alonso even if i dont agree with it. Alonso's a legend and if he can do better than Alonso he holds onto that seat. They can push the car all they want but if he cant beat his teammate he's seen as a failure (look at De Vries). He just needs to get similar results but better to stay (the team will assume that's all they can manage because that's all Alonso was able to extract from the car also). at the same time, Stroll and the team can take as many risks as he wants because he'll always have a seat no matter what . His goal is the team because his family IS the team. Everyone (including Lance) knows he'll never actually beat Fernando and will never truly have that incredible amount of skill so he accepts his role for the greater good and is just using this time to learn and absorb info from the master himself. Devries isn't seen as a failure just because he can't beat his teammate. But because he hasn't even come close to his teammate who happens to be Tsunoda, one of the worse performers last year. Add to that AT publicly saying that Dev is their #1 driver and Tsunoda is #2 the public backlash is natural. With Ocon it's an entirely different case. If he was given a choice to get overtaken either by his teammate or the guy from another team whom you are competing against in WCC.... He will chose to let the other guy overtake.

Lance is a really good driver but since his dad owns the team he doesnt need to partake in politica nor does he need to thrash his teammate. Pretty much what one can hope for in a team.

Lance gets a lot of hate for his driving (which isn't that bad tbh) but he seems like a genuinely good teammate. Some people really seem to have forgotten what having a bad relationship with your teammate really is like (eg ocon perez)

Stroll is pretty much an owner as well … and wants what’s best for the team maybe more then any driver on the grid he likly has treated him great because Lance doesn’t have to work about being beat by a teammate makes it work better

a) Stroll is no threat to Alonso, therefore he doesn’t have to play dirty or play mind games within the team, but b) he’s also recently expressed an interest in taking on somewhat of an advisory role with Aston Martin when he’s finally retires, I think if he can’t take a third championship for himself, he’d like to claim that if AM do eventually take a world championship, that work he’s contributed, whilst racing and also if he does take on a role in the team afterwards, has been instrumental in that success. 🤷🏻‍♀️

First I thought the same as most, sure he's getting paid. But I also remember Hungary 2021 and other instances at Alpine where he did a lot for the team. Think about El Plan and so on. I genuinely believe Alonso might be a decent bloke when you work together with him. I wouldn't even think he wouldn't be happy, when someone was quicker than him.

Honestly I think he is for one a genuinely nice person. And for two, enjoys being somewhat of a father figure/ mentor for him to help him actually succeed in the sport, instead of being there just because hes the son of Lawrence. I don't think its about the money for Alonso. I imagine he's doing fine on that front.

To be fair, Lewis ignored orders for qualifying which is what incensed Fernando enough to do that. Had Hamilton not disobeyed orders, the entire escapade never would have happened.

Alonso knows that Stroll won't be able to outcompete him in any way. That's why he has nothing to lose giving away advanced techniques or strategies to Stroll, that it won't result at the same level as his, even when done correctly by Stroll.

They put him on to be a mentor and he treats Lance with an equality that he hasnt had alot of so their relationship is really the best thing for the team.

I honestly like the pairing. I enjoyed Danny/Max and of course Schumi/Barrichello, but Lance and Alonso seem to gel pretty good.
