I'm trying to get into art little by little, but what i do more often is progamming/game dev, and wow it always start as: ultra hyped the first 1 2 days, then overworking and rushing things and not really prioritizing real life issues with pile up start affecting my work, and it gets stressful and rushed, and i barely eke out a finish of something i'm not that proud of, because i knew it could be better if i just SLOWED a bit, and seeing your video at a late night spree of trying to do things better really put into perspective how important it is to just... focus on the right things and be ok with not doing things fast. Anxiety is a real bitch, i swear. Your mic volume/quality makes it a bit hard to concentrate on the video, but it was enjoyable! Hope you have fun on those late night drawing sessions too, being a denizen of the night is a feeling like no other and no early worms or busy work days can change that :)

6:12 I feel like I need to rush because simply: I'm just getting older. Most good artists I see online are either in their 20s or in my age group (I'm 35, still young but older than most artists on twitter) but already has 10+ years of experience under their belt. I have a job not art related, I have bills, my body cant stay up at all hours to draw, and while single now I do want to hopefully have a family one day. My time is getting shorter, yet I know for a fact getting good isn't just a 'I can get this knocked out in a year' thing. That shit can take up to 5-10 years for some 😭😭😭

Social media really puts pressure on top of you to pump out work fast since i kinda went through an art block(? if you could call it that? Of not finding anything to draw that was "worth" posting and that's why I stepped back from drawing as of now to focus on other projects and man, i miss my wife (drawing) And also, dont judge yourself based on how fast you can draw since to me that's more related to your drawing process AKA your comfort zone, if you're constantly trying to learn new stuff it's obviously gonna take you more time and that's okay, since you need to grasp your newfound knowledge and apply it to your work rather than refining your already set drawing process which results in faster drawing. Both ways you're gonna improve and its a matter of preference if you want to grind art or just draw cool characters for fun, you can switch between both of these cuz in the end, drawing is a hobby and you're supposed to have fun while doing it 👌

I feel all that, everything, and what pressures memore is that I need to be faster cause I wanna start working doing commissions again this year, since I can't have a "normal" job like everyone else due to my extreme social phobia, I can't go outside the house by myself so I also don't have a job, and I always wanted to work with drawings. I made money with it in the past but I've been through so many awful things that it made me stop drawing for like2 years, now I need to recover my skills and the pressure of the thought that "I need to start working already" cause I really need money, the fear of not being able to survive my myself, it's stressing me to the point it prevents me from drawing,then I feel like a loser,that I'm not good enough and all those crapy thoughts, even though I already made commissions for people from different countries, but I feel like crap anyway, like if I was not good enough and I'll never make it =\

Hello hello ! I'd say that yes, this is (again) relatable. Whenever I'm studying stuff or just trying to draw something I'll realize how I do not have the skills I need to draw whatever I had in mind and begin to stress out. My best drawings are the one I made without a goal in mind, while just messing around. And also I'm not patient so ...taking more than 4 hours to draw something is a big effort for me. I would take my time if there was something at stake u know (like money or an art challenge). Anyways good video AND the character ur drawing is really cool (btw why does she has two pairs of glasses ? And how the heck did she get those scars?).

@@althae_the_dino Hi! yeah not having the skills to make something you want is a frustrating feeling.. but i’d say that when you can break something down and take ur time with it, it can become a whole lot more easier and understandable (but patience is a tough thing sometimes 🙃) and I agree! some of my favourite drawings have come when i had little to no goal in mind, and just went with the flow.. i wish i could do that more often 😭 thank you!! ur asking the real questions LOL the character is Maki from Jujutsu Kaisen! how she got the scars is a spoiler 😭 but she has two glasses bc i thought it would be funny and bc i was doing a little a crossover with Jet Set Radio and gave her an outfit based on the series’ fashion!

So here's a thing that we all sort of get: nobody cares about your art unless you have a lot of it. This goes for anything, really. Nobody cares about your music until you have a lot of it. Nobody cares about your books until you write a lot of them. Applies to just about any creative endeavour - nobody cares that you made one or two things. They care that you made a LOT of things. So if you haven't made a lot of things, you get that the reason nobody cares about your things is that you haven't made enough of them. And that means you need to make more things, and the faster you can make them the faster you get to where people care about your things. There's only one problem. The faster you make your things, the less you learn from one thing to the next. And it's not really "a lot of things" that people care about, it's the amount of experience - and attendant skill - you got making those things. In 1890, Monet started painting his neighbour's haystacks. He made 25 haystack paintings, which is impressive, but what really matters... what makes them significant... is that each painting shows the haystacks in different lighting and weather conditions. For seven months, he went out to paint haystacks, and each time he took with him the unfinished canvases that matched the weather and lighting of the day. People do not care because Monet painted 25 pictures of haystacks. They care that he spent seven months studying the visual effect of light and weather. If you raced through 25 pictures of the same subject in a week, you would not learn what Monet learned. You would learn SOMETHING, certainly, but it wouldn't be anywhere near as useful or interesting. The race doesn't matter, because it's not about how fast you get from here to there. It's about how much you learn on the way. And learning takes time. You're going to do the same course over and over until you learn what there is to learn, so you may as well slow down and relax and learn as much as you can every time. You're just hurrying to start over.
@countryisntgold3 ай бұрын
wow thank you for this! this is extremely true, and i never really thought about it that way 🤔 I agree with all of this! this puts the need to take my time in a new perspective. slowing down and finding the balance of focusing on learning and purely just creating for fun is important, and both can happen at the same time. so i really should just enjoy the ride 😌 thank you again

One thing that's kinda stood out in my mind is "If you're going to do art it should come naturally" And lately I know the self-discipline mantra is to do it when you don't feel like it but the problem is art depends on the emotions and feelings that you put into it I personally haven't broken my streak of drawing everyday but personally I'm against doing so
