🍏 Interesting topic. It really depends on the individual and their life goals. When I learned Spanish I was really worried about not sounding like a native. After a while, I realized my goal was effective communication and that it was okay that I don't sound like a native speaker. I used to work in emergency services and the situations in which I needed to speak Spanish demanded effective communication and pronunciation; not being able to speak like a native. I think having a clear focus on WHY we're learning a language can make things flow easier. I learned Indonesian quicker because I had a clear focus on what outcome I was looking for: effective communication. For others, in the movie industry, etc, the goals may be different. Thanks for the great video and positive energy! 👍🏼😄🍎

Hi, I am Chinese. I am a serious British English learner. I so far have found you have done a terrific job in speaking with the American Accent. If I turn the screen off and just listen to your voice, I would think you are an American girl. It is because you are using the tone (up speaking) correctly , also you have managed very well with your energy level when you speak!

I think the accent is important to succeed because it is an important part of the spoken English. I think the needed level for people is being understandable with your accent and it is okay for them since they can understand you, even in conferences people will look for understanding what you are saying and the clarity of your content more than just your accent, people in the street too and friends won't demand a lot in terms of accent if it is understandable. In your case I can't tell a big difference you are fluent and accent is really good. Some people though love hearing different accents because they are special and sometimes even cute or reprenting the country they come from which is great for the culture differences in a same country. But i encourage you to continue working you accent if it excites you because It is great if the experience of living in the US makes you starting to acquire the accent with time, it is one of the factors that can help you integrating the community rapidly and being able not to be noticeable as a foreigner which is cool and challenging, and it is a personal choice to work on the accent from being understandable to the level of sounding native. I find that exiting as well. Of course in some professional frameworks or in some careers they might need a native accent or to different accents like for acting.

... I'd like to say, native-like accent makes people easier understanding what we say, but i think each one of us is special, we Can have our own accents, it should be okay, no problem at all. Accent is important if: you don't want to draw extra attention to oneself you want to make impression on other people So, you want to be a super spy
@edisionadle14096 жыл бұрын
I think it is important to sound as native as you can. That way you not hindered by your accent when it comes to finding jobs or socializing. Have you ever come across a job posting and one of the requirements of the job is to have excellent communication skills. I know have. I like to compare an accent to the famous Turing test. The Turing Test was created by Alan Turing in the 1950s and the goal of the test was to test whether a machine had achieved a certain level of intelligence. In the test, a human interrogator sits on one side of a room and a machine or human sits on the other side of the room. The human integrator does not know whether the person they are communicating with is a machine or human, but has to figure out through a series of questions. If the human interrogator fails to identify the machine then the machine has passed the Turing test. Now accent for me is the same way. If you are speaking to someone on the phone and the person on the other side of the phone cannot see you and cannot tell whether you are black, white, Indian, American, Russian, etc. Then you have passed the accent test. Because let us be honest people judge others by their accents.
@svetlanafadeeva65516 жыл бұрын
If people want to judge you, they will regardless to your accent. Yes, you are right about a job situation. Although, when it comes to socializing, I am not sure your accent is always a disadvantage. It really depends.
@edisionadle14096 жыл бұрын
@Svetlana You are right people will judge regardless of your accent. But what I mean about socializing is if people can't understand you when you are talking then there are likely to either not talk to you, finish your sentences, etc.

I dated a girl "off & on" for ten (10) years, and she wanted to be an actress in Hollywood. So, she moved out there and tried for years. She got some parts, but none good enough to please her. Over the years, she went from happy and delightful, to sad and bitter. I represented some professional football players, however; I have a close friend in Los Angeles who is a big time agent for professional sports. I knew enough to refer my clients out to him so that they had the best chance possible. There is a rather nasty saying that applies to Hollywood, and it is: "It is not what you know, but who you blow that counts." Sorry for the bad language, but that is the only manner in which to express the dirty ways of Hollywood. So be very careful about whom you trust. Broaden your horizons, but never lose control of your life and business. You must control both of them 100% of the time. I apologize for seeming too nosy, but I do not want to see all of your abilities get washed down the drain by trusting another person with your life. Be sure that the people with whom you surround yourself are just as ambitious as you are. Keep in touch, Earl ( nhullenlawoffice2006@gmail.com )

A wonderful advise: "Don't lose your accent!" As if one can lose his or her native accent at all. Who ever saw such people? And why advise to continue making pronunciation mistakes? It is the same as to advise people not to lose their mistakes in grammar and word choice.
@yunonnelemora92956 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's THAT important but probably with accents more like the people around you it'll be easier to make friends at first. When I came to the States last summer to visit my aunt (I'm 17) I was practically SWARMED by American voices, like, I could "hear" voices in my head before I fall asleep. That's a super good way to pick up accents. Also I think native expressions are also really important? Otherwise people'll have a harder time understanding you. Anyways, your video is fantastic!!!
