what's the point when most teams are international anyways and have 80% of their meetings online...

Yeah I always find it interesting when they enforce RTO for "collaboration" Then people come into the office to sit next to each other in silence or take calls from their desk - collaborating with people that aren't there while simultaneously producing distractions for everyone around them.

@@HAMYLABS exactly. I only go to office for attendance and try to come back to WFH as soon as possible as none of my team members are in same office.

Look at the bright side. They still get to work two days from home.

I definitely it is a way to reduce the workforce saving on costs. You just don't need that many engineers when your systems are already built and growing at the tremendous rate it is.

They could take it to the next step and require a suit and tie in the office.

Remember, this is Amazon, the next step is scrapping toilet breaks, expecting workers to bring bottles to pee in.

Good video, I think is along the lines with the forcing people to resign, so they save cost on layoffs. Multiple Amazon employees in linkedin ( software Engineers) are indicating they will change jobs as soon as they can.

people resigning is just a side effect. The actual reason is simple - remote thing does not work in most cases, efficiency/results is very low.

Q: Do you have data on this? I've been trying to find some good data to dig into to see what it says ab remote vs in person

@@HAMYLABS sorry no, just personal experience as ceo. Also managing remote teams leads to huge overhead, which is expensive, especially for small companies. You don't need to look far, for example home depo was full of people when many were "working" from home. Funny part is.. if you let them work from home with one condition, that spyware will be running on their computer during business hours, and suddenly they no longer want it.

@@circuitdotlt ??? probably because they don't want spyware running on their home devices?

Best way of reducing the workforce. Makes sense with all the advances in AI and employee bloat after covid. They hire quickly and fire quickly.

No, the engineers that advance the platform will get a remote job elsewhere. The ones that stay in the office are the engineers that have a less marketable skillset.

If Andy Jassy is requesting it, it’s very likely the right decision for the company, employees long term and the customers long term. He is one of the best leaders in American Business.
