Oh who would've thought another bad video game live action adaption where they decided to say F the actual source material would be bad. Can we all just as the gaming community just get together and boycott any future live actions ?

I've been doing that since forever. When you can know if something is bad just by seeing the trailers, you won't have this problem.

@@Valstrax420 nah same but these directors clearly either hit or miss when they don't follow the source material and then when they do hit due to people who have never picked up the game it's based on find it good, they think it's job well done.

We've gotten some solid adaptations over the years, like both Sonic movies, Mortal Kombat (the first one from the 90s), Fallout, and Last of Us. Amazon Yakuza was just a horrible misfire.

You can change things about a story if it makes the adaptation better if you ask me. It wasn't a red flag in my brain when they said it'd be a different take. But this show is Like a Dragon completely in name only. It doesn't capture the feeling of the LaD series at all. It's just a generic crime drama

I haven't seen the Amazon Yakuza but i have seen Takashi Miike movie. You are right it was mediocre. But i think it got Goro Majima's casting perfect in that film at least. Btw, my personal favorite Yakuza game is Yakuza 6. Thought it was a great finale for Kiryu's original run. But i also love Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth from earlier this year. Great sequel for Ichiban's story as well as a satisfying continuation for Kiryu.

I get that they wanted to do their own story different from the games, but its not a particularly good crime drama on its own and its got none of the charm of the games, so I don't really understand what happened, I honestly believe that adapting the first game's story faithfully to some extent would've worked just fine for the first season, its honestly a good story aside from some minor points

To be honest, watching it as a dramatic autobiographical retelling of Yakuza produced by Ichiban makes this show is rather enjoyable

They fumbled this so bad, imagine how bad the crazy taxi, persona, and streets of rage movies and series are going to be if this is the first non sonic adaptation.

To be fair, those titles are going to have different producers/studios behind them. So there's just as good of a shot that that Shinobi or Streets of Rage movie will be great or bad, assuming they get off the ground. Also drinks on me if Crazy Taxi Movie gets made, they've been barking up that tree for decades now to no avail.

Fight scenes are bad, drama is bad, kiryu isn’t the protagonist, Haruka (other mom) and goro just had 2 episodes, now kazama is a dragon of dojima

I don’t think it was that bad, I’d say it was a 7/10, I’d give it another chance with another season if that happens. The real definition of a really bad show/video game adaptation was Paramount’s HALO

I actually like this show but im not a fan of the video game but the show got into the series so 🤷 yeah man u cant say im wrong for like this show cause it got interested in the series i but the one that caught my eye the most was like a dragon isshin i plan i buying the rest as well.
