how is this different from an API gateway? i have reviewed that video as well but its a bit confusing as it mentions similar functionality.

What a Different between api and sdk?

The API will be the programming interface to access some data. You program the API with a programming language SDK. In summary, the SDK helps you to build the API. Now you can always use the raw elements provided by a programming language to build the API, but an SDK helps you get there faster by "packaging" capabilities into one subset of operations. For instance, think of Node.JS and Express. You can build a WebServer with paths and methods to make a REST API always. Think of Express.js as a SDK Framework, that will help you get there faster by "pre-configuring" some functionality for you.
