It's great for low budget filmmakers.

Really, my man, you going to stick with that nonsense… (4:28) There have been quite a few Hollywood productions shot with iPhones… (5:17) Not to mention that the iPhone 15 Pro literally stepped up it’s game in that regards… One could film with a RED, and I could match anything produced using only a GH5II paired with an Atomos Ninja V, throw on a RED or Arri LUT on, and you would NOT be able to tell the difference. We have Zeiss CP.2 lenses, but could still use only native Leica or M.Zuiko Pro glass and none would be the wiser… I look forward to now using an iPhone. I even bought a cage specifically suited for the task. Things recently became incredibly more interesting since the release of the iPhone 15 PRO…

I'm just saying its good for low budget films etc. It's going to be good for others too. I use a Lumix GH6 and I still like using my iPhone 12 Pro max. I'm going to probably get the 15 Pro Max. Apple is going after low budget, big budget, beginners and others. It's amazing what they have done. @@superzero4250

Excellent take Dave. Thinking I’ll get the 16, on a 13 now and perfectly happy using my actual camera for now. Excited to see where Apple takes this.

Very excited too about using an iPhone to film professional type of projects, already know of quite a few successful productions. Plus recently acquired a lot of the necessary gear to rig the iPhone, cage and all… Brave New World indeed… 🤔

Totally agree Dave! Log on my iPhone 15pro is cool, but I only shot it a few times for fun before I took a deep breath of relief when it shot with my r6 II in clog3.

How will the focus operator do his job when shooting with iPhone ? Many people ignore that a cinema lens or cinema camera has no auto focus at all. Because it is Manually set in live mode - on purpose- it is a techician with a remote control that commands a motor on the lens focus ring to adjust the focus point where it has to be. Foreground back, mid, or even moving from back to foreground

I predict Apple will finance and release a film shot on the iPhone 15 Pro. I also wouldn't be surprised if they didn't do a Sundance type event for iPhone shorts too.

I remember how DSLR camera filmmaking movement started with Canon T2i, 7D, and 5D, crippled Hollywood and made the industry to reassess the future of Filmmaking. 😂

This event most likely cist more to film, than by even renting an Arri Alexa. Much more time soend on preparation, rigging, and lighting.

for sure. proof that it’s not the camera that matters

Well… I did notice the filmed with iPhone disclaimer at the end of the Scary Event… To be honest, I thought they might, but really didn’t give it much thought… 🤔

It's very difficult to shoot with an iPhone that's also your phone that serves for communication, notifications, a car key and a bunch of other uses. The ergonomics are totally bad. And for the price of an iPhone 15 you can have a pretty decent classic (as in "not also a phone") camera.
@superzero42509 ай бұрын
That is why they make phone cages with quarter thread holes for accessories and attachments. Not to mention hand held gimbals, selfie sticks, and other stabilizers… 🤔

I think the whole point is to have the thing already in your pocket. That friction when you debate if you should grab the camera bag is the thing that the iPhone solves. In an earlier comment I posted an example of a fully rigged out iPhone, which basically solves all of the ergonomics. I also think that the fact that an iPhone is a camera and also a phone is pretty useful. Most mirrorless cameras don't have a cell connection for data, and can't connect to cloud services, etc. So you need the phone anyway.

I'm waiting for my iPhone 15 Pro Max to arrive mid November. Meantime, last week we pitted a Google Pixel 7a against a Canon DSLR and lens etc. the Pixel 7a DECIMATED the Canon on low light, quality and shot list. The 7a was 3-5 times faster to frame the shot. Can't wait to see what the iPhone delivers.

all true! one of the reasons why i don’t like using my phone for video

Wait, I thought you had to pay for Resolve when you edit 10-bit video. Or, was that 422 10-bit?

I was thinking the same thing about marketing. They market it for professionals but it's actually targeted at novices and normal iphone costumers. Phone cameras are the main selling point for new phones because they are basically the same thing every year. And it's not bad it's great for small content creators and film makers. But no actual professional is using an iphone. The low light performance is still trash. And if someone hired a professional to shoot something like a wedding, and they only showed up with their iphone they would be kicked out. For a similar or slightly higher price you can get a great mirrorless that shoots way better video.

Nobody filming stuff on android!

they aren’t there yet… sony xperia is good though. android would need a streaming service and control of all the hardware for that to make sense.

Half Way into filming for a client your “phone/camera” starts ringing 😆🤣 and that client is never gonna want to work with you again.. Or even worse.. you shoot on your phone all day.. and you miss the Big client that needed a videographer tomorrow.. but now you missed the chance 😂
@davidaltizer9 ай бұрын
haha! good point! geez… that’s gonna be wierd
@broderick79329 ай бұрын
yeah, cause you totally can’t silence notifications while filming & you definitely can’t check notifications between shots 🙄
@baekmedier9 ай бұрын
@@broderick7932 🤣 my clients would not like that for sure 🙈 Maybe for some SoMe stuff for a small bakery, but bigger clients would not pay a premium for that im pretty sure :)

Agree… a phone is a phone… a camera is a camera… keep the phone for everyday communication, after all that’s what the phone was made for. A camera was made to capture moments/scenes and that’s what a camera is for.
@MaximoJoshua9 ай бұрын
@@brettyg76 but the iPhone has a camera, and its probably one of the most used devices in the world to capture moments and scenes. If you don't like it, don't use it, but this is just the beginning. We already see the creator using an FX3, and as mentioned Soderberg already did a few films on iPhone. There was that other short they did earlier this year on the iPhone 14 Pro Max (Huracan Ramirez vs La Piñata Enchilada), and then the Olivia Rodrigo commercial, and now the Apple Event. I like to try and skate where the puck is going. I don't think in 10 years fewer things will be filmed on iPhone.
