Good video once again. Thermal expansion is why emulsion shocks are built ”dead” i.e. the shaft doesn’t come out on its own from full compression. Any pressure (above ambient) inside the shock will ramp up quickly when you drive an off-road car around the track at high-speeds. Same thing with the diffs: an amount of air is left inside on purpose to allow oil expansion. Failure to do this will cause the oil to push on the outdrives and lock the cross pins on the inside. The seal could blow, too.

Some have e clips under and above the piston that I don’t like since they break one me . I like the ones with a nut on top of the rod and the piston sits as it should on a shelf 👍. Besides that kind I like the RC shock builds .

What about smaller like SCX24, recently i read somebody said they are just another pair of links. So no need for all those considerations about oil. Oil Dampers only very recently have been used, the Injora 39 or 40 mm oil shocks seem to have become a standard.
@BoomslangSuss2 ай бұрын
I have a couple SCX24s. It's pretty tough to get oil to seal, and the friction in those seals would pretty much over power the oil damping force, so personally I run no oil and super light springs. Sometimes no springs. A good friction shock design (like using multiple o-rings - more or less to increase or decrease damping friction) would be a smarter approach for cars that small, but no one is going that path yet that I know of.
@DubsnSubsSessionsАй бұрын
The injora oil 'filled' shocks actually tell you to not fill them with oil, just a bit for lubrication. Also the 39mm ones have a 1 piece piston/shaft with notch cut in the side rather than holes which causes a lot of friction, I have been disappointed in them so far.

thank you for the video. I really like your drawings, most RC channels never make their own drawings... I have sth to add to the shock debate: kzbin.infoE3KMpwZfxZs?si=nTrU032QaduD6cOI 😆
