This is why I love you, Five. You know my city (Edmonton) once had a Gardens, even though they tore that place down over 40 years ago lol

And what about Canadian arenas/stadiums with the name Place? BC Place, Rogers Place, TD Place.

Why is it called Madison Square Garden when the building is clearly in the shape of a circle?

Neither is it on Madison Square.

@@guyfaux3978it used to be on Madison square. Just the newer iterations moved, so they kept the name.

The first two were on Madison Square, but then they sold the land to the NY Life insurance company. Garden #3 was on 8th avenue and 50th street until they convinced the city to tear down the beautiful Penn Station to build what’s there now. It’s been renovated but there are proposals to put #5 somewhere (?) and replace the outside of the current Garden with glass, rip out the floor and have that be the new commuter side of Penn Station.

@@joermnycThe City had no financial involvement in the demolition of Pennsylvania Station or construction of current Madison Square. Tetering on bankruptcy the Pennsylvania Railroad sold the air rights, including the above ground portion of the station, to developers Graham-Paige. The City greased the wheels in a more tradizional way. The City Planning Commissioner happend the President of GP's brother. He resigned right before they approved the project, to head up the new Madison Square Garden, Inc., 75% owned by GP and 25% by the Pennsylvania RR. They destroyed the station and built the Garden.

@@FivePointsStadiums I guess it was called just The Forum for a little at first. I'm considering it The Great Western Forum, or now Kia Forum. But I also consider Forum the same as stadium, center, etc... So guess again. lol.
