Why are cheap poles being sold as whips?

Why are cheap poles being sold as whips? I can only imagine that anglers are being deliberately misled so that those selling and promoting these monstrosities can increase their profit margins. It begs the question - what is the difference between a pole and whip. Let's explain...
Fishing whips were invented by match anglers to catch fish quickly. No elastic, no reels to get tangled, and no landing net needed. The idea being that you can simply whip or flick out a light rig and return it to the hand very quickly, using a solid flick tip and a rig that is just a few inches shorter than the total length of the whip.
So, is a whip ideal for beginners? Well...that depends on what fish they are likely to catch on it and what you might regard as being called a fishing whip in 2022? It used to be easily defined as the above, but the tackle trade and rise of carp filled commercial lakes has caused the definition to become increasingly vague, which isn't helpful at all.
In this whip fishing tutorial I explain what a fishing whip is; what dubious variations exist under the definition; and the advantages that certain whips have for beginners learning to fish. The main advantage is the light weight - ideal for smaller people, but this has somehow been forgotten. People that should know better like the online fishing tackle shop Angling Direct; and big KZbin stars like Carl and Alex are not helping the matter by confusing it with poor fishing advice. Re-branding cheap heavy poles as whips. It is misleading, confusing and frankly irresponsible when like me, you have to consider the safety and welfare of those fishing and of the fish that are being caught. Pole fishing for beginners is best started with a whip, especially for younger people.

Great video that has reminded me how to attach a rig to a whip. I bought a very expensive set of Italian whips but havent used them for at least 10 years. Local canal has been recently stocked with a lot of silver fish up to about a pound in weight. Cant wait to reacquaint myself with my whips. Thanks

Actually bud... they are known as whips because soldiers during and after the war used the radio aerials from Tanks to fish with and they are known as a "whip Ariel" and still called that today by modern armies... so a bit of fishing history there for you..👍🏼
