I'm unhappy because I have to give up 2 hours of my time every day (MY time because it's not paid) to commute to an uncomfortable office and I still do everything online and through Teams. The rest of my team and my bosses are all remote, so there's no in-person collaboration. My meager pay increases haven't kept up with the pace of inflation while my workload has nearly doubled. After being able to have a life along with work for 3 years, I'm now back to having nothing but sleep and work. I barely even get to see my husband anymore. What exactly is there to be happy about?

That is so accurate.... I'm a robotics engineer from Mumbai... My daily commute time is around 3hours..... It feels like I'm losing time every day and this is going to happen every day

Bingo! I can definitely relate

I hate going to the office. We do everything online even in the office. What is the point of commuting? Always traffic and toxic employees in person

I prefer remote work. Different things work for different people. One of my favorite things is, I don't have the chatty co-workers constantly trying to take up my time throughout the day. Not saying I don't like talking with people, but I have more time now to focus and have improved work output. It let's me have more flexibility with the other responsibilities in life. I don't have to waste time commuting everyday and putting extra wear on my car. I have more flexibility with my lunches, allowing me to save money and make healthier meals. I've worked remotely with 3 companies now and none of my teams I've been on have ever had an issue getting things done. I've always felt connected with each one because we made time for chit chat during certain meetings, and activities that build comradery. It can be done. Just a matter of management putting in the effort to facilitate such an environment.

Before I even watch it I want to say my discrepancies are with overworking, pay, and lack of flexibility (you can work extra but as soon as you need off you're fired).

There has never been, nor will there ever be, such a thing as friends in the workplace. Keep in mind, without hesitation, your colleagues will cast you aside for a mere hint of extra pay or a sliver of job stability. My mantra? Embrace the NSA principle - Never Say Anything!

Idk, I’ve made a lot of great friendships at work from former jobs that I still keep in touch with

Every single person I know who is unhappy in their career is due to one of two factors, sometimes both. Return to office (non-remote after being remote) and pay/time off. Thats it. No in between, no ambiguity. I have never met a person in my life that wants to go into to an office if they can do their work from home.

I definitely felt the work isolation. So I taken up leading a new sport and actively made friends at the gym. Other people I know in the same situation have joined social organizations. Like churches or volunteer at animal shelters

Too many hours, too long commutes, and not enough pay make a job suck. Throw in prolifically bad managers, and there's no mystery about this. To add, what you call the "social" aspect of work, some of us call office politics, and I personally can do without all of that.

far too many business leaders are more proud of their headquarters facilities than the workers who fill it, the pandemic proved what many office workers said for years, they could work remotely just fine after all businesses were keen to outsource to remote workers before. removing the commute also reduced mental stress whether driving or using public transport

Rather than repeating the rote line that ‘hybrid disconnects us’ it could be that wfh highlights how well connected, communicative and trusting different teams are. The teams that break me down do it in person or remote. Poor communication hits hard regardless.
