Why are GOOMBAS in Link’s Awakening?

Link's Awakening is a very special game in the Zelda series, I'd even say it is my favorite 2D Zelda game, but I'll have to wait and see until I finish the other games in the Zeldathon! One large question I have about the game is how are there Mario and Kirby enemies in it! If only someone made a video on that!

This was my thought at first, but since the whole island is actually the Wind Fish's dream and Link just sorta merges (trying to avoid the "Link" double meaning) with the dream, so maybe the fish has some experience with Mario and Kirby worlds?

I-Frames are basically 2 or 3 frames where you cant get hurt, think of it like if you get hit by a turtle in Mario Bros, that 1 second where mario flashes because he took damage means he cant take any damage while Mario’s sprite is flashing

Chain Chomps also feature in a late game dungeon in a Link to the Past, apparently they were originally intended to be Zelda enemies that made their way into Mario games starting from Super Mario Bros 3, so possibly they were intended to be in The Legend of Zelda or Zelda II but were cut from the game?

I believe the Mario enemies are in Link's Awakening because they're minions of Wart, who appears to have also become trapped in the Wind Fish's dream. It's possible, as a dream entity, that he got pulled into Koholint after being defeated by Mario in Subcon.
